God of this city: Indianapolis!

Downtown Indianapolis, Sunday morning August 8th, thousands of Christians worshiping together!

Thank you to everyone who worked to make Worship in the City so amazing and God honoring.  For city blocks you could hear Jesus being praised.  Some of the music was urban gospel, some was southern gospel, and some of the music was modern rock worship.  Several pastors shared their hearts.  It was BEAUTIFUL to see the Body of Christ together, outside, in unity, and motivated to serve Indianapolis.  When the Aaron Pelsue Band began sing "God of this City" with downtown Indy as the backdrop, it was moving, precious, anointed, and so right.

What is going to happen in America if the church joins together to love our cities like NEVER before, in an UNPRECEDENTED move of unity and love under the banner of Jesus Christ?  The very best is yet to come.  I'm praying God will show me what my role is, show you what your role is, and that we will all have the courage to do what He calls us to do.

The time has come to love and to live what we've learned.

in Christ - Lisa

Hear Joshua - A Little Boy and $1 Making a Big Difference

Never underestimate what God can do with something "little".  There's the cool story of a 7-year-old boy from Wisconsin who anonymously gave a dollar to a stranger that God turned into $3,000 to help other kids.  When Jim Pfifer walked to his car parked at the YMCA in Waukesha he found a note written by a child with $1 attached to it.  The note read, "This is a dollar I made doing my chores and I wanted to do something special with it, so I'm giving it to you.  God loves you.  My name is Joshua, I'm 7 years old".

Upon reading the note, he took it in to the YMCA and donated the $1, along with $10 of his own, to the YMCA's Strong Kids campaign.  Then at a fundraiser, he told the story, and checks of donations started pouring in.  The $1 he found soon turned into $3,000, and it was all because of Joshua's idea to pay it forward.  There's more to this very inspirational story - see the video below. OR hear the story as told by Joshua when he called Lisa & Eric (click here)

4 Day Belief Challenge - Dr. Gary Smalley

If you are struggling with things like pride, anger, unforgiveness, selfishness, lust ... Dr. Gary Smalley encourages us all to take the Four Day Belief Challenge! In areas where we shouldn't let our heart and mind wander, taking those thoughts captive and surrendering them to God.  It starts by memorizing these four commands of Christ through these 4 verses (Dr. Smalley says to think upon these things 7-14 times a day and see the difference it makes in your life) :

1) Matthew 5:3 - (Listen Here) Blessed are the poor in spirit.  Instead of being boastful and arrogant (pride), be humble.

2) Mark 12:30 - (Listen Here) Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength

3) Mark 12:31 - (Listen Here) Loving your neighbor as yourself.  Serving others, instead of using others for our own gain and pleasure.

4) Matthew 5:9,10(Listen Here) Trials are not bad. Thank God for the pain.

Living with HIV - Pastor Shane Stanford

He made a choice to not let being diagnosed with HIV be a "death sentence".  Pastor Shane Stanford found out he was HIV positive following a bad blood treatment when he was a teenager.  But he didn't let that "positive" diagnosis, become a negative. His life has become a story of perserverance, faith, forgiveness and God's Grace.

Talking Money

If you ever feel like there is too much month at the end of your money, you are not alone.  Danny Kofke, a special education teacher in Georgia, came to the conclusion that if he wanted to be able to support his family and continue to do the job he feels called to do, he needed to figure out how to live on teacher's salary.  In fact, he wrote a book - "How to Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher's Salary."

Danny says - "The number-one reason people are so far into debt is they don't know where the money is going," says Kofke, who is married with two daughters, ages four and one. "When we got married, we walked around with a pad for a month and wrote down everything we spent. After that we used a cash system -- we pulled $200 a week out of the ATM and left it in jar in our apartment. It's so much harder to spend the green stuff than swiping a piece of plastic through a machine."

You Were Made to Make a Difference - Max Lucado

Pastor and author Max Lucado joins us again this morning talking about the concept of "outliving your life" - doing things each and every day that will have an eternal impact that will continue to make a difference long after you are gone.  For some ideas from Max, click here.

This idea - "outliving your life" is the subject of an upcoming book from Max and here's what Max has to say:

These are difficult days in our world’s history. 1.75 billion people are desperately poor, natural disasters are gouging entire nations, and economic uncertainty still reigns across the globe. But you and I have been given an opportunity to make a big difference. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope? Infiltrated all corners with God’s love and life? We are created by a great God to do great works. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven, but here on earth. Let’s live our lives in such a way that the world will be glad we did.

And is if a book wasn't enough, this Fall Max will be hitting the road sharing from his heart and also sharing the stage with Michael W. Smith, Third Day and Toby Mac on The Make a Difference Tour 2010.  For more on the tour (tickets went on sale last week), go here.
