Parking Lot Failure

About a week ago, a woman tried to park her BMW X5 in a gym parking lot in Thornhill, Ontario. For some mysterious reason, she instead drove over two other cars and sat on top of them for a few seconds, like a big game cat savoring her kill. Then she drove off. One of the demolished cars was a 2004 Hyundai Elantra that the owner had just finished paying off, and on Friday Hyundai gave him a new car. Luckily the incident was caught on a security camera, so if you haven't seen it yet, here ya go:

The 62-year-old driver returned to the scene of the crime—she was a member of the gym—last week, where she was identified by a gym employee with a special interest in solving the case. The Globe and Mail writes, "She was identified when an Extreme Fitness staff member, whose own car had been crushed in the Oct. 22 incident, spotted a similar-looking SUV in the parking lot again Wednesday morning [October 28] and called police.

"The Elantra owner, Todd Jamison, was surprised last Friday by a Hyundai representative in the parking lot: ...when colleagues called him into the office on a pretense, he found a shiny 2010 Hyundai Elantra in the lot along with a smiling Hyundai representative. ""We wanted to help the guy," a Hyundai spokesman told TheStar.com. "This was our random act of kindness." Either that, or it's the best viral advertising video for both BMW vehicles, and Hyundai customer service, that I've ever seen.

Onion juice, garlic chunks and a brisk walk...cures for the common cold?

It's officially cold and flu season and we're hearing a lot of talk about how to avoid catching the latest bug. But, what do you do if you start coming down with something? Any surefire methods for fighting off the common cold? We heard about many "normal" (i.e. sleep more, drink lots of liquids) and "not-so-normal" (onion and sugar juice, garlic chunks!) remedies on the show today! Here are a few ideas from Glamour magazine:

1: Walk fast. New research has shown that walking briskly will help keep a cold at bay by increasing your immunity. But don't run (you'll get sick if you overexert yourself), and if you have anything more than the sniffles, you best stay in bed.

2: Don't blow. When your nose is all stuffed up, blowing both nostrils at the same time can propel mucus up into your sinuses, which could possibly cause further infection. Um, yecch. Instead, take decongestants or blow one nostril at a time.

3: Take a sauna. Research shows that the warm, moist air somehow gives your bod the same detoxifying benefits that drinking lots of liquids does when you're sick, ushering the cold right out the door.

4: Have a hot fruit drink. Drinking a hot cup of apple and black currant juice has been found to relieve symptoms such as sniffling, coughing, sore throat, and runny nose. Scientists are researching whether other hot drinks are as effective.

5: Eat peppers. Chow some red bell peppers, high-in-vitamin-C superfoods that are believed to reduce the length and intensity of cold and flu symptoms. Other immunity-boosting foods: yogurt, tumeric, garlic, oregano, green tea, and pumpkins.

So, what are your best methods for beating a cold? It appears that nothing is too odd...as long as it works!

Basketball's Finest Moment!!!

I saw this video on the news the other day, and I wanted to make sure that you saw it! I love it. I love what it says is possible when we don't quit! It reminds me, that as believers, we must remember that the Bible says that With Christ, All things ARE POSSIBLE!!! (Philipians 4:13)

Really? Beans for lunch?

If you're a parent, you've probably found that the struggle to feed our kids healthy food (that they will actually eat!) is constant! It can be tough to choose the right foods to put in their lunchboxes. So, this list of things that should be in our kids' lunches caught our eye. According to EatingWell Magazine, there are three things that should be in our kids' lunches to give them the nutrients and energy they need. The first is Oatmeal Bars. They can fill a kid up quickly (if you're running late and eating on the way to school!) and last longer than a sugary cereal. Another food that is great for our kids is yogurt. It helps to provide much-needed calcium to help them build strong bones. The third food on the list made us laugh! Never would have guessed: beans! Experts say that beans have iron and many new studies show that kids don't get enough iron. Iron is good for learning, memory and battling attention problems.

So, in addition to Oatmeal Bars and yogurt, break out the "musical fruit" (sorry, teachers!) for a healthier lunch for your kid tomorrow!

One of my favorite movies growing up as a kid was the Wizard of Oz.  It was like one of the only movies we got to see, because we only had one TV channel in the little Minnesota town that I grew up in.  I am curious, if you could pick one Wizard of oz Character that best describes you, who would it be???

Christian Music has come so far!!

I don't know about you, but I have always loved music, and being able to listen to a station like KLOVE is awesome!  I am blown away by the music from artists like Third Day, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, Tenth Ave. North, Chris Tomlin, Francesca Battestelli, Crowder, Mattehew West and on and on I could go!  What amazes me is how far Christian music has come in the past 30 years!

Being that KLOVE is entirely Listener Supported it is you that is owed the thanks for a station KLOVE!  Thanks so much for making KLOVE a reality!  I am not sure what we would all be listening to, if it wasn't for your support!

Kanye West flagged for Unsportsman like conduct!

Last night at the MTV VMA Awards Kanye West through a tantrum when Taylor Swift won for best Female Video.  He got up on stage and blasted her saying that Beyonce should have won the award.  This seems to be a patteren of behavior for Kanye, and the unfortunate thing is it's a display of poor sportmanship.  Perhaps as bad, Serena Williams had an ugly outburst at the US Open yesterday, again another poor display of sportsmanship.  As much as we would like to throw the book at Kanye, or Serena, I think we all have our moments when good sportsmanship goes out the window.

Their poor behavior was much more public than ours, but I imagine that most of us have had our "moments".  Shining our light as believers isn't always easy, if it was I suppose that there may be a lot more people who would be following Christ.  As a believer, Christ calls to a life of service and self sacrafice.  Watching someone else's failure is many times a reminder of my own failures, and I am reminded of the incredible grace that Jesus extends toward us, even at our very worst.

That is the Good News that the world needs to know about, and we have the incredible privalage of telling them about it.  Ironically enough, today's KLOVE Encouraging Word is a reminder to all of us, Matthew 5:13 says, "You are the salt of the Earth, but what good is it, if salt loses it's flavor?"  The whole world may not see our bad behavior, but there is always someone watching that God has charged us with reaching.  My prayer is that I don't fail God, and live my life for His Glory even when I think no one is watching!!!
