What is your favorite lullaby?

My Mom always sang "You Are My Sunshine" to me as a child.

I don't remember much from when I was a kid and if my parents ever sang to me.  I am sure they did but I am old and can't remember.  I have always sung Jesus Love me and Jesus love the little children of the world to my kids.  Matter of fact my 3 year old loves Jesus Love me and sings it all the time to herself.  

I used to sing Rock-a-bye-baby:

Rock-a-bye-baby on the tree top
when the wind blows the cradle will rock
when the bough breaks the cradle will fall
and mommy will catch you cradle and all.

I just heard the question about singing your kids a lullabye.
When my kids want me to sing to them at bedtime, I sing them RAINDROPS ON ROSES from sound of music, I once picked it up as a library book and finally reading the lyrics it was easy to remember. This use to be one of MY favorite songs growing up, from my favorite movie!

I sang "Into My Heart... Into My Heart... Come Into My Heart Lord Jesus" to all 6 of my grandchildren from the time they were born....they heard it so much that most of them could say "Into my heart Jesus" before they could actually talk. I still sing it to them whenI get a chance. They are 10-18 yrs of age.

I tried calling, this is a lullaby that my mom sang me to sleep when I was so tired and cranky, and if I someday have kids, I know they will hear it.

It's not a lullaby, but when our kids were little I would say "good night sweetheart".  That evolved into the chorus...
"Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,

Goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight."
Now our daughter is in college 12 hours away in San Diego.  Sometimes when we are chatting on IM, I will type those words to her when I say good night to her.

I haven't been blessed to have children yet, but my mom used to sing songs from the Sound of Music especially Edelweiss.  Those songs are stuck in my head til this day 22 years later!

My parents sang to me - I love you forever I like you for always as long as Im living my baby you'll be. - It is form the book I love you forever.

I sing Amazing Grace to my girls at night.  They are 4 and 5 and I've been singing them that song since they were born.  You can see the peace that comes over them.  It's a beautiful song and my girl's will remember our special times together as they grow.  And most importantly, they will remember the lyrics that speak of our Savior's amazing grace.

First of all, I just want to say thank you to K-LOVE for putting together such a wonderful and inspirational radio station with very powerful and meaningful music.
When I was little my Dad used to sing Frere Jacques to me in French and English at bedtime or sometimes to wake me up in the morning. A year and a half ago my husband and I were married in my parent's backyard. The father-daughter dance started with Jim Brickman's version for a couple minutes and then into Steven Curtis Chapman's Cinderella. The intro was a surprise to my Dad. What I later realized is the similarity between my Dad and Steven. My Dad's first daughter died before I was born. She drown at camp when she was 11. My dad never talks about Heidi, but told the story at my wedding and how he feels two sets of arms when I hug him. Mine and Heidi's. It was a magical moment dancing with my Dad, we stole the show and their wasn't a dry eye. I know we both felt Heidi's presence there. I'll never forget him singing to me when I was little or dancing with him on my wedding day.

I sang to my kids all the time.  "There's Something About that Name" could calm any trauma...I use it on my grandkids now.  I tried to call to sing for you an all-time favorite but I always get the message that my call cannot be put through at this time. Here are the words:

"Oh I stuck my head in a little skunk's hole and the little skunk said, 'Well bless my soul!  Take it out, take it out, take it out, remove it.'  Well I didn't take it out and the little skunk said, "If you don't take it out you'll wish you were dead, take it out, take it out, take it out...pssssssssst.  "I removed it."

With my oldest daughter, Cecily, I sang "You Are My Sunshine" she is now 19 and I still call her Sunshine.  With my youngest daughter, I made a lullaby up for her.  Her name is Holly and she had very blond hair.
"I've got an Angel with hair of gold,
  given to me to love and hold,
  God made her to keep so near,
  I thank Him for my Holly dear."
She is 15 and I still call her Angel.

31 years ago my husband was on a submarine based out of Pearl Harbor Hawaii. We lived there for  3 years and our first child was born there. I learned an Hawaiian lullaby called "Good Night Keiki" in Hawaii a keiki is a little child. I sang to my baby daughter every night, many times we were all alone, because daddy was out to sea. I also sang it years later to my son. Now I'm a grandma and my daughter sings the same song to her 3 children here in Washington state! aloha!

Rusty old Halo.

My grandma and Dad sung it to me and I sing it to my 5 yr old and 11 month old.

Its about being good and doing what is right or when you get Heaven you'll get "a rusty old halo and a skinny white cloud and second hand wings full of patches, a rusty old halo and a skinny white cloud and a robe so woolly it scratches."

I always felt so bad for those poor bad people that had to wear those things! Now my son asks for the song when he's sleepy. I love passing down things to them that impacted me as a child.

My dad used to wake me up with a made up song. The tune matched the Happy Birthday song:

And if that didn't work he would pour water on my neck

Now I have a 6 1/2 (don't let me forget the 1/2) year old son (Jimi) and I wake him up with my made up song. the tune matches Bob Marley's Get Up, Stand Up:

Get up, Wake up,
In bed you cannot stay.

At bedtime we read books more than sing, but when he is upset I always sing The Ants go Marching and pat his back.

What lullaby do I sing to my son?  Well, my son calls it "Its a little bit funny" but it is actually "Your Song" by Elton John/Bernie Taupin.
My son has autism.  This means that between 12-18 months old he withdrew into his own world, stopped looking at us, reaching for us, noticing us.  BUT when I would sing this "lullaby" he would look at me, notice me.  What was once the song my husband and I sanced to at our wedding became our life line to our lost,precious boy.  We prayed for Beau and so did many people. He has been healed, at least in part. God has been so good to us. When he began to talk after years of therapy ---he know every word to this song. He talks and sings himself these days.  We still sing with him at night, many songs.  Then recently he had a meltdown while we were traveling. He was so agitated and I did not know what to do.  I sat in the room with him...he was hitting the walls and I began to sing "Its a little bit funny" and he came and laid his head down in my lap.  It still has magic, apparently.  Any song can be claimed for God and blessed by God for his purposes.  "Your Song" has become a family prayer and a reminder of how very blessed we are.  Thank you.

When my 16 year old daughter was little, I sang to her a made-up song to the tune of "Rock-a-bye-baby"  It went like this:

"Breezie Marieezy, she's a big girl,
she has brown eyes, pink lips & red curls,
She's 2 years old and she has a brother named Andrew.  She's going to bed now, sweet little girl."

And since she was just listening to K-Love upstairs in her room and heard about your lullabye question, she asked me to post this comment.

     Through my parents divorce I would cry my self to sleep most nights, but I would listen to this song and feel at ease and know God would be right next to me holding my hand. I would listen to this song just about every night for about 6 monthes, before I went to bed.

My husband (who is a wonderful husband, father and pastor) sang "Jesus loves you, this I know . . . " to our children whenever he rocked them to sleep at night as babies. He would gently stroke their forehead right above their eyebrow and softly sing his adaptation of "Jesus loves me" over and over again until they fell asleep. Both of them are grown now. Our son is 23, getting married this summer and heading off to graduate school to become a Christian psychologist. Our daughter is 20, a college athlete and she is graduating this May and will start grad school this summer to become a high school math teacher and coach. Both are totally grounded in their faith and living for Jesus and I credit my husband Don's consistent and unconditional nurturing from the time they were born through today and beyond for that. "Jesus Loves Me/You" is the greatest lullaby ever!

When my son, Aaron, was a baby I used to sing this lullaby to him...a little twist to "Rock-a-bye Baby":

"Rock a bye Aaron, on the tree top,
when the wind blows, the cradle will rock;
Angels in heaven look down from above,
soon you'll be sleeping, Aaron my love."

Well i think my favorite lullaby is twinkle twinkle little star because it kinda reminds me that god is there and always will i always sing this song to my little sister and now that i am here i want to ask god to draw my little sister close to him and show here the love he offers altough she is only 2 right now but for god there is no age thanx wish love and blessing, Fernanda Duran

I have three kids--age 4, 3, and almost 2.  Oh yeah, it's a busy house!  Nitetime calmdown is a very important part of our day-each child has their OWN lullaby that mommy sing...I think it makes them see how special they are.. I sing "have I told you lately that I love you" to my 4 year old son, I sing "Goodnite my someone" from the musical The Music Man to my 3 year old daughter, and I sing "Think of me"  a veggie tales song to my 2 year old daughter.  Both girls also really like "once upon a dream" from sleeping beauty.  They are such beautiful kids, inside and out.  My husband and I are so blessed!  Praise be to God!

My family is of sweedish decent and for as long as i can remember i have heard "children of the heavenly father" in sweedish. I have been singing it to my children since before they were born. In fact, the day my first son was born, me, my mother and her mother all welcomed him into the world a few hours after he was born w/ that song. my oldest is 15 and she has told me how that lulaby still brings comfort to her.

From the time my first chid was born (starting in the hospital at her birth) my husband and I ALWAYS closed the bedtime routine with a song.  We sang Eiedelweiss (from Sound of Music)with the following words:

We continued to use that as a night-time lullaby for her, our other daughter and son, and now for our 3 grandsons.  By age 8, we noticed that our children would start singing with us.  Hopefully this will continue to be a song that is handed down to many more children and generations.

My twin boys loved for me to sing "Flower in the Rain" by Jackie Velasquez and when one of them was in the hospital at age 7 with phenomia, he asked me to sing it to him every night before we fell asleep.  My twins are 18 now and have moved on with their own lives and when they feel homesick, I still sing it to them or hum the words over the phone!

I am now 26 years old and I could remember as a child how my mom has never been able to carry a tune that wouldn't make cats scream!! But she would try! As kids she would sing Jesus Loves Me and The B.I.B.L.E song!! Or we would just sing to the radio. She didn't sing to us at bed time because that would just wake us all up so she would read to us. It was fun as a kid some times all three of us girls and my mom would try to hit high notes to see if we could brake glass but we never get that high enough!! We are all now 26, 24, and 23 and my mom is 49 with one grandchild who is 3 and is making her grandma sing to. It brings back such memories.

I have been singing the Kim Hill song "Love you up to the Moon" to my daughter since the first moment I laid eyes on her at 4 months old in Guatemala.  That was one of the constants in the visits to Guatemala in the year & 1/2 before we brought her home.  She is now almost four and sings the song to her stuffed animals.

My mom used to sing to me every morning when I was little and even in middle school.  She'd sing "Rise and shine and give God the Glory".  I am now 26 years old and in medical school out of the state and when I come home to visit my mom still sings it to me and it still makes me feel great!  

My daughter just turned 18 recently. When she was just a toddler, we would sing "We Have these moments to hold in our hands" just before bedtime. I believe the Gathers use to sing this little tune at the end of their concerts. I remember my daughter cupping her hands together as she sang it out every night. Thanks for bringing this memory back! How precious little girls are!

When my 7 year old was a baby and wanted to just cry rather than lay down to sleep I would sing Thank You by Telecast, it goes like this:

Now that my boys are older, (17, 19, and 23) they sing to me.  When they are home from college we'll gather around the piano to sing hymns.  They sing this one in beautiful harmony.  It is a joy.  They are a joy.

I used to sing a lullaby to my boys, every night, when I tucked them into bed. It was one that I made up.

When my youngest son was born, I simply switched out his brother's name in the song for his. I would gently rub their heads and stroke their hair, as I sang the song to them. By the time I go to the second verse, they were usually fast asleep.

My "baby" is now 18 years old, but this really brought back sweet memories for me. I am looking forward to singing my grandchildren to sleep....someday.

My mother sang two special songs to me when I was a child.  I then sang them to my 2 girls and now to my grandchildren.  One is on your list already, You Are My Sunshine and the other one I'm not sure what the title is but it goes like this -
I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!  Then of course we hug.

I am not ready to have children yet but I do have lulliby experince. About 4 months ago, one of my friends, a little girl named Peyton, passed away of terminal cancer at age 5. Whenever I would spend nights with her in the hospital I would sing "how He loves us" to her as she fell asleep. When she went to be with the Lord the day after Christmas, I sang the song at her funeral, with everyone joining in as we went. It meant to much to her and she knew that when she went to be with Jesus she wouldn't have to hurt any more. And she embraced it. Her life inspired so many around her to live closer to God.  

My mom when I was Little would read me the book Hush Little Baby and when we got to the end she would tuck me in bed tell she a bedtime story and sing me that song and that is the song that i would fall asleep to every night. I still have the book and sometimes when I think about when I was Little i bring out the book and read it aloud to myself.

When my first son was having trouble taking naps it was around Christmas time and the only Chirstmas song that i knew most of the words to was Silent Night. So i would sing the fist 2 verses to him and now my son is 4 almost 5 and he still wants me to sing the Silent Night song to him. I'm sure that song will always be special to both of us.

I have sung Michael Rowed His Boat Ashore to my son since he was born. They were special tender moments we shared when he was a newborn. When he was a few months old several medical issues developed and we had many sleepless nights together. I'd sing this song to him and often the melody would continue and the words would turn into prayers. Even now that my son is 9  we have those same sleepless nights when he is sick. Often he'll start humming the song wanted me to sing and often the words of this song turn into prayers and it is a special time between us and God.

when my first child was born I lived in a very abusive relationship. I cound not even think of a lullibie. The only song that I could think of was Amazing grace. I sang it to him as I rocked him  to sleep, every night for the first two years of his life. It keep me grounded and gave me the hope I needed. Oh and how amazing his grace is, he brought us out of the storm. Now when we hear the song he says mommy remeber when I was a baby you would rock me to sleep and sing this to me. He is almost five now and knows most of the song. It will be something in both of our lives that will remind us of those preciouse times and how amazing our heavinly fathers Grace really is.

I sing two songs to my now 12 year old son.  One is You Are My Sunshine, but our favorite is the chorus from Mercy Me's I Can Only Imagine.  My husband is very good about praying with our son every night and then when I sing this song I just feel like it leaves a wonderful picture in my son's head as he falls asleep.

My favorite lullaby to sing to my children was "Away in a Amanager," one of the best lullabies of all times.  A sweet song with a special message to start their little lives.  My children are all teenagers now...how I would love to hold them in my arms and sing it to them again.

When my mother was a little girl, my grandma used to sing a song to her called "Scarlet Ribbons".  

Likewise, my mother would sing it to my siblings and me when she was tucking us in for bed.

My older sister's name is Holly.  She is now 25 and has founded a home for HIV positive orphans in Jinja, Uganda.  (You can view her website at www.AfricaOurOwnHome.org)

Before she founded her children's home she was touring as a chaperone with the African Children's Choir (A choir of children who were orphaned by AIDS or war in Africa).

One night, Holly was singing "Scarlet Ribbons" to one of the children as she tucked the child in to bed.

When Holly explained to the child that her grandmother had sung that song to her mother, and that her mother had sung it to her, the child said, "I am your child and someday I will sing that song to my children!"

Our daughter wanted Silent Night sung to here EVERY night; all three verses...she is now 33 with a baby of her own and when he spends the night and I give him the bottle, I can't help buy softly sing Silent Night.  Old habits die hard.

I sang "Oh How He Loves You and Me" to all three of my children. Holding them, I was always overwhelmed by my Father's great love for me; and I wanted then and still do want to impart more than anything to them that He loves us so! Through every struggle, we usually just need to get back to that basic truth. I can tell them I love them, and I DO! But above all they must know their heavenly Father's love...and they DO!

My grandma would always sing "sweet by and by" to me. Not exactly a lullaby but even to this day hearing that song makes all the stress that im under suddenly go away.

I don't believe this is really a lullaby but When I was in High School I babysat this one little boy quite often.  Every time he would make me sing this song "You Can Close Your Eyes".  That little boy died of cancer many years ago and ever since I have looked at every lullaby cd looking for that song.  I have never forgotten the words, and I now sing it to my daughter every night before she goes to bed.  That song holds a special place in my heart!

I remember holding my infant son in my arms at bedtime and singing a song I made up very softly in his little ear.  The song followed the scale up and down and was very simple, "now its time to go to sleep my sleepy little baby.  Night has come and now its time for you to go to sleep."  I only had to softly sing it a few times before he was fast asleep.  I sang it nightly until he was about 2 and then don't remember singing if after that.
Years later when he was 13 he developed a brain infection and had to have neurosurgery.  As he lay in recovery with his head bandaged and swollen seemingly unconscious I held his hand and lay my head next to his on the bed.  Suddenly he whispered, "Mommy, sing me the song".  At first I didn't know what he was talking about but he said, "you know, when I was little".  I leaned in close to his ear and softly sang the song as he went to sleep.
Tonight as I drove home from bible study I had an overwhelming urge to speak to my now 27 year old son.  I called him and asked if he remembered the song I sang to him when he was little.  He said, "of course I do" although he didn't remember me singing it to him in the hospital.  He is still my baby and I love him very much.

My dad used to sing to me before bed - The Lion Sleeps Tonight.  But my dad was famous for making up his own words to everything!  One of my favorites is to the tune of Yellow submarine - except we all lived on a chocolate chip cookie... not a yellow submarine!  
As far as lullabies - The Lion Sleeps tonight goes like this -- In the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight... so my Jenny, my Little Jenny - you can sleep tonight.  We even danced to that song at my wedding.  Precious.

When I was little my grandma would sing to me I will always love you by Whitney Huston. My grandma was battling cancer at the time and she was scared she would loose me and my little brother. But now she is a lot better the cancer is gone she's been free for 10years by the power of God. Now I'm 16 don't have any kids but I have to little sweet and adorable little cousins and when they was babies they would lay on my chest and I would sing them to sleep and I would sing some songs out of the hymnal and they would fall fast asleep and I thank God for keeping my grandma and for giving my aunt them little girls. I praise his name.

wow we really love your station and many times my kids fell asleep to your station. we have 8 children and have sang them all. Now its funny how things changed from earlier in life to after aceepting Christ. i love the old ones, You are my sunshine, hush little baby, On top of spaghetti you see my second son was my 1st from my hubby who is part italian so as a joke I used to say my son was my little spaghetti noodle he still loves me to sing that to him. Then i began singing Amazing Grace and Jesus loves you my kids love that. My hubby sang a different song though to my autistic son you see when he was little and still sometimes now he made this weird duck face soo daddy sings him "little ducky duddle" song it goes like this

I began singing Kumbaya as young girl in my Brownie troop - "Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya.  Someone is singing Lord, Kumbaya.....Years later I learned that Kumbaya means "Come by (here) My God" which provided me a way to pray and cope  while singing to comfort my son as an infant and young child.  My verses included
"Someone's crying Lord, Kumbaya, and then later I can remember singing  Someone's tired Lord, Kumbaya, it works for every situation you can find you or your loved one in.   It helps keep you and listeners aware of God's presence in times of trouble and that's really what it's all about, as He is the Great Comforter.  

When my 3rd child was a baby I made up a lullaby that would start with

"Mommy loves you, Daddy loves you, ... loves you" (putting in  each siblings name) and at the end singing:
"But Jesus loves you most of all".  

Since I had seven kids the song got longer and longer.

I remember when I was little my Grandmother would sing:  I love little Kelly I do I do, I love little Kelly I do, I love little Kelly but don't you tell (and she would name another grandchild).  I have 7 Grandchildren this year and I sing the same thing.  I sang that and you are my Sunshine to my Children.  My Granddaughter Emmalee 1 1/2 yrs will go to the rocker with her blanket and milk, pat the chair and say I do I do. Thanks for all you do, I love K-love.

I found this on a CD when my oldest daughter was a baby It is called the I love you song it goes like this:  I L-o-v-e Y-o-u your all of my dreams coming true from your cute little nose to your sweet little toes I l-o-v-e y-o-u!  

My Dad use to sing Tora Lora Lora to me. He was an amazing, funny guy. When he died, I spoke at his memorial service and sang that song a capella at the end of my speech. Everyone ended up crying and couldn't tell their funny stories about him until later.

I love my Daddy in Heaven!

I love the song my mom always used to sing to me before bed. I don't know if it is actually a song. She might have made it up, or heard it from her mother. It's tune is something I have never heard again from any other song or person. The lyrics go like this...

My mom would sing you are my sun shine and this little light of mine to me before i go to bed when i was young. Now i am almost 16 and see sing something like to all of us in our family once in a while.

I saw at the 16th street mall in Denver a man holding a sign and walking the mall with a sign that said Jesus Saves! He did not care what anyone else would do! It made my day! We have such an amazing God a righteous King Ruler over everything and it blesses me when someone does that for the Lord! When I first met my husband, he had two daughters. His oldest took to me right away. She loved me from the beginning. I used to rock her to sleep before I would go home and I would sing "Consider the lilies" and "On my knees" by Jackie Valesquez. She was 8 years old. Still to this day, at the age of 16 she still likes me to sing to her. actually now we sing it together. She is phenominal!!!! wish you could hear her!!!!

I grew up in a very musical family and don't remember just one lullaby that my mom sang to me. I have a 3 year old that I sing "Jesus Loves Me" to, and now I have been told he sings it at Daycare before nap time as well!

I used to sing the theme from Cops to my son at night. "Bad Boys, Bad Boys whatcha gonna do when they come for you." No wonder he was so ornery!!lol

Hush Little Baby...I've been singing it to my 5-year-old every night for about two months now, by request.

My mother had a tape with that song on it and she would play it for me and my sister at night, when we were little. She doesnt remember the tape or the song. And for the past few months I have been on a desperate search to find the title of that lullaby. Please, any information would be greatly, greatly appreciated. thanks so much

TIFFANY, I know exactly what you're talking about.  My mom had that same tape!  (Or something like it)  Anyways, I know I still have it somewhere, though am having trouble finding it at the moment.  I'll ask my mom if she knows where it is or if she even remembers the name of the song.

I am looking for that same tape...I played it for my son and now he is having a baby...I got as a shower gift...I think it was discovery toys but I cant find it either...it also had the song ..I'll love u forever...forever and always my baby u'll be....!! I only have a couple months ....if anyone can pls pls find this It would really make me extremely happy....I would like to give it to my new granddtr when she arrives!!!! thanks again!!
