Powerful words to read on 9/11

After 9/11/01, many of us memorized this passage of scripture, speaking it as a prayer for ourselves and those we love...

Psalm 91

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God
 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
         Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
         My God, in Him I will trust.”

 3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
         And from the perilous pestilence.
 4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
         And under His wings you shall take refuge;
         His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
         Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
         Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

 7 A thousand may fall at your side,
         And ten thousand at your right hand;
         But it shall not come near you.
 8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
         And see the reward of the wicked.

 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
         Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
 10 No evil shall befall you,
         Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
         To keep you in all your ways.
 12 In their hands they shall bear you up,
         Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
 13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
         The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
         I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
         I will be with him in trouble;
         I will deliver him and honor him.
 16 With long life I will satisfy him,
         And show him My salvation.”

I was listening to the show this morning and remembering when my husband enlisted in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq. His main motivation to enlist was because of the events of 9/11. I read the blog about Psalm 91 and it just made me cry because that is what I prayed over him while he was in Iraq. It was a constant prayer over him for ... Read Moreover a year. God saved him from many situations that seemed impossible, but he saw a lot of trauma as well. He has had many questions as to why such awful things happen. It has been a very hard road.
Last year John and I had a baby girl born on 9/11 at 9:11 pm! It was like God's beacon to show my husband that there is still good in this world and to enlist back into life!

Hello,

That's so encouraging to know that people are praying the word.  It's so thoughtful, considerate, and shows where your heart is. I'm studying through psalms now and when I see a psalm anywhere it just encourages me to keep studying so that I can hide the word in my heart, use it in my speech, and keep it in my mind that I may be transformed. What a way to lift up the Bride of Christ this morning!!!!

Lisa, I woke up this morning to you reading this verse...this is quoted from Personal Promise Bible's Modern English Version personalized with YOUR name.

1  If Lisa dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Lisa will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2  Lisa will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in whom I trust.”

3  For He will deliver Lisa from the snare of the fowler,
And from the deadly pestilence.

4  He will cover Lisa with His feathers.
Under His wings Lisa will take refuge.
His faithfulness is Lisa’s shield and rampart.

5  Lisa shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day;

6  Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7  A thousand may fall at Lisa’s side,
And ten thousand at her right hand;
But it will not come near her.

8  Lisa will only look with her eyes,
And see the recompense of the wicked.

9  Because Lisa has made the LORD her refuge,
And the Most High her dwelling place,

10 No evil shall happen to Lisa,
Neither shall any plague come near Lisa’s dwelling.

11 For He will give His angels charge over Lisa,
To guard her in all her ways.

12 They will bear Lisa up in their hands,
So that Lisa won’t dash her foot against a stone.

13 Lisa will tread on the lion and cobra.
The young lion and the serpent she will trample underfoot.

14 “Because Lisa has set her love on Me, therefore I will deliver her.
I will set Lisa on high, because she has known My name.

15 Lisa will call on Me, and I will answer her.
I will be with Lisa in trouble.
I will deliver Lisa, and honor her.

16 I will satisfy Lisa with long life,
And show her My salvation.”

Reading this passage brings me such comfort.  Last Sunday, my grandmother went home to be with the Lord.  My grandma read this passage every night before she went to bed.  When she entered the nursing home three months ago, I had the honor to read this passage to my grandmother daily.  As I would read it aloud, my grandmother would recite it word for word.  My precious grandmother took refuge in the Lord and was such a faithful servant of the Lord.

We are at war with an enemy that is invisible but not invincible ...
The two towers fell but it consoles me that the Name of the LORD (Jesus Christ) is a strong and mighty TOWER and those who run into Him are SAFE and SECURE.
This is the time for warriors to stand up and as we remember the fallen, let us not forget to remember those who are still under the bondage of the one who fell from heaven ...

Hi

What an amazing passage. That is now my favorite chapter/Psalm. I have always had a deep respect for those heroes that saved hundreds of lives on that fateful day. It's so amazing how God shines through, even in the darkest times of evil. We truly serve an Awesome God.

When I heard you Lisa read Psalm 91 on air at around 11 am, I was amazed at how God planned that
very date and chapter to give all of us a hope and peace that He is still sovereign, even when He allows terrible things to happen.

I am continually blessed that despite the rapidly decreasing amount of fear in God in this nation, there still are radio stations who are trying to encourage fellow beleivers in this journey on earth.

May God continue to bless you all in this ministry.

Lisa,

Thanks for uncovering such a beautiful and powerful Psalm for me, Psalm 91. It has been there all along, but you have renewed its power. You and Eric do a wonderful job on the morning show.  Thanks for your witness!
