Finances, One Gift and more....

Not just Gifts from Santa!

A job for their mom or dad. Money for the heating bill. Food or a place to live. Maybe gloves or boots.  More and more, children are asking for less for themselves and more for mom and dad.  With unemployment stubbornly high, more homes in foreclosure and the economic outlook dim, children are becoming more aware of their parents plight.  A reminder that kids are listening and they’re understanding the situation mom and dad are in financially.

We were recalling that when we were kids we had no clue what financial situation our parents were in.  They never talked about it in front of  us, but it seems that's not the case today.  Do your kids know what's going on with your situation?  Do you talk about finances in front of the kids?     Read the full story

Just One Gift

We talked with a woman today who told us how her parents taught them about the true meaning of Christmas.  On Christmas morning, she and her siblings would wake up to a Christmas tree surrounded by tons of gifts!  The kids would tear into them all excited at the amount and different kinds of gifts they each received.  And after the fray, mom and dad would then say, "Now.  Pick one gift.  Only one.  The rest we are giving to a family in need."  Wow!  She said it was shocking at first, but when they saw the joy of the family in need receiving the gifts, well, it all made sense.  The feeling of joy and love were gifts that you couldn't purchase, and they were gifts that weren't fleeting.  They remained.

Christmas movies, lodging, and more....

Amy has never seen "It's A Wonderful Life"!

Can you believe this? What's your classic Christmas movie?

Amy's favorite is "Elf"

Kankelfritz likes  "Elf" and "The Santa Claus"

Craig enjoys "Charlie Brown Christmas"

A little different, but it's for a great cause.

A woman in England is offering people the chance to go "old school" for Christmas. Fiona Furton --owner of a bed and breakfast-- is renting out her donkey stable to people who want to experience the "true meaning of Christmas." For under 20-dollars a night, you'll get a stable that has a double bed made ofstraw, tea making facilities, wi-fi, mood lighting and heating. For a little extra, you can also get shepherd costumes.?Turton plans to donate any money made during the holidays to Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.

Super Foods

Nutritionist, Catherine Kruppa, on the show today to discuss "SUPER FOODS" for this season! Check out her picks and some recipes on her site:

Lost and Found

Ever lost something and then found it in a strange place?  Craig's wife Christine did that recently and posted about in on Facebook:

"true confessions; I couldn't find one of my boots. The left one, to be exact. Several hours later, as I was switching out the laundry from washer to dryer ... guess what I found? Yup. My left boot. Nice and clean at the bottom of the washing machine."

Men and Shopping

Kankelfritz read an article that pointed out how men find shopping stressful. But he can be trained if you go "hunting" for only one item. It's like bagging game. And you should keep shopping jaunts to 30 minutes or less with no browsing.
