$1 per pound - Help Lisa Outlive Her Life

$1 for each pound from October 1 until January 1st...

starting weight: 208

heres' the story:

frustrated with my recent weight gain and lack of motivation, i was pondering and praying as i folded clothes in my closet.  i've gained 18 pounds since starting on the K-LOVE Morning Show, and with the holidays coming, i was thinking deeply about it all, wondering how i could motivate myself to do what is best and healthiest for me and my family.

you see - every week, i make a workout schedule. i convince myself i'm going to eat right. and then each week i continue doing the same things i have been doing - and nothing is changing except a slow, creeping weight gain.

so i asked myself the question: what REALLY motivates you, Lisa Williams?  and i asked myself to be honest with me :)

the first response of my heart was:

money.

it's kept me at many a job:) it motivates because it's vital for living.  i thought - well maybe i could ask people to give me a dollar a pound for whatever i could lose in 3 months, and then i could buy a new wardrobe and vacation in Tahiti!

i laughed for 3 minutes.

then, i got more serious and asked myself - come on, Lis. what motivates you?

and my heart said: competition. mainly, competition with myself. i love, love, love. love, love, love, love a good challenge.

and THEN, it hit me like a ton of bricks...

Lisa!  you KNOW what motivates you the most!

it's doing good for things that matter!!!!

some of the best times in my life were in Orlando, working on off-air projects that dramatically changed lives and glorified God - so rewarding sometimes i felt like i'd just won the Superbowl.

so then i asked myself the logical next question:

how can i combine the 3 and motivate myself to lose 30 pounds?

and here's what came to me...

instead of eating my way through the next 3 holiday months, i could take October 1st to January 1st and challenge myself to lose 30 pounds (eating less and exercising).  then, there could be a Facebook page where my friends could say - yes, i'll give $1 for every pound lost by Lisa Williams from now until January 1st.  and then, to top it off with the ultimate in motivation, the money donated could go to a ministry that is changing lives, feeding orphans, reaching poor families - all with the love of Jesus Christ.

wow.  as i just typed it all out, i felt such a rush, lol.

if each pound meant that ministry to "the least of these" was going to happen in a profound, Christ-centered way...

it's $, self-competition, and doing good all in one.

so, what do you think?

will you Outlive Your Life with me?

the money you donate in January would not go to me, but straight to Compassion International.

click here if you want to motivate me.  Smile

blessings and much love in Christ,

Lisa

On the Seventh Day...Lisa Camp sermon

Lisa had a great time speaking to 3rd & 4th graders at a church camp last night!  She was given the topic of sharing on days 4-7 on Creation and thanks to K-LOVE listener Stephanie (a lawyer from Indianapolis), she had these amazing thoughts and insight into the 7th day of Creation.  See her notes below (and thanks Stephanie!)

  • The Seventh Day

o   Well, we’re going to talk about the Sabbath today, and the Sabbath is the day that God rested after he created the heavens and the earth and everything in them.

o   Would you be tired if you created the whole universe in seven days? Did you know that God never gets tired?  He never needs a rest!  But He rested anyway, because He wanted to show us that He knows what we need.  We need a rest sometimes because we’re just human beings.

o   Here’s what the bible says, in Genesis 2:1-3:

So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. (NLT)

o   What else did God do on the seventh day besides rest?  (He blessed it and declared it holy)  What does holy mean?

o   So the Sabbath is not just a regular rest, it’s a special rest that God made holy by blessing it.

  • God’s Rest for Us

o   In the book of Hebrews, God tells us more about his special, holy rest, and I’m going to read some of that to you now, from Hebrews 4:1-3 and 6-7:

God's promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. So God's rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. (NLT) (emphasis added)

o   This is kind of a hard question, but what do you think God is telling us we need to do to have his special rest? (accept Jesus into our hearts, have the Holy Spirit)

o   When can we have his special rest when Jesus is in our hearts?  (right now!!!!  all the time!!!)

  • Wrap up
  •
    • We aren’t like God at all, we’re just human beings.  This means we need to rest and obey God so we can do the work he has for us while we’re here on the earth.  We need to have “regular” rest for our bodies and our minds, like when it’s summer and we just have fun swimming and playing outside, and we also need to have the special, holy rest that God tells us about in the bible.  So I’m going to say our closing prayer now, and while I’m doing that, I want you to think to yourself about what things you can do to have that special rest with God.

The K-LOVE Morning Show is moving to Indianapolis!

Between now and early December, there is SO much going on in our lives.  I wanted to share some of it with you, so you can pray.  And because you're our friends.

We are very thankful for all God is doing in our lives.

So...here goes:)

The K-LOVE Morning Show is moving from California to Indiana!  Now in case that confuses you because you thought we lived right there in your town...

We are actually at the EMF main headquarters in Rocklin, California.

EMF (the Educational Media Foundation) is the parent ministry of K-LOVE and our sister station, Air 1. Both morning shows on K-LOVE and Air 1 originate from California for the entire nation.

So here's the deal...

In order to be heard on the east coast at 6am, we have to start at 3am Pacific time.  Since I joined the morning show in March, my family has had to do a lot of adjusting so I can get up very, very early. With a 1 & 2 year old, you can imagine how interesting life has been at our house:)

We are so thankful.  Because of the generous support of our listeners, God opened an amazing door for EMF to purchase a radio station in Indianapolis for K-LOVE -- 101.9 FM, complete with great studio facilities!  This now gives EMF two primary locations in America--California and Indiana.

Having some of our staff in Indiana will make it easier for us to be at more events all over the country.  We're really excited about the chance to be at more K-LOVE concerts and events.  Maybe we'll get to meet you and your family someday!  We would like that:)

You shouldn't hear a change at all.

But OUR life will get a little more normal and we'll get to spend more time with our families in the evenings; This is a giant blessing to us!  We're so thankful to work for a ministry that cares so much for its listeners AND its employees.

Being in Indiana will be great for my family, since it puts us much closer to my husband's family in Illinois (the grandparents are THRILLED), and we'll only be a day's drive from my family in Louisiana. It is the same blessing for Eric and Julie's extended family in Chicagoland.

So, so, so many demands and details come with a move! Combine that with the holidays, and you can guess how we are doing:) If you've ever moved, you know!! Thank you SO MUCH for your prayers during the transition. Between now and early December, we'll be packing, shipping, moving, and setting things up in our new homes and studios.

Leaving friends and our amazing churches in California is really tough, but we believe we are following God's leading.

And we believe God is getting ready to pour through EMF to reach more and more people in America! The world needs the good news that Jesus is alive, that God has a plan for their lives, and that there is more to life than just living and dying.  Christians need encouragement to stay strong and grow.

Thank you for your love, prayers and support for this mission.

Life is an adventure!
God rocks!
Pray for us!

in Christ,
Lisa

"You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 The Message

Proverbs 31

We started reading through the book of Proverbs on October 1st, and now here we are at Proverbs 31!  Every few months, it's great to read through the book again, letting the words of wisdom sink into your soul.

You may have heard the phrase "a Proverbs 31 woman".  From verse 10 to 31, this incredible woman is described.  She's busy!  Strong arms, creative, a great manager.  I've done Bible studies on this Proverb, read books about this woman.  For a while, I tried to be like her, but I got exhaustedLaughing.  When I think of the Proverbs 31 woman, I think of all of us.  I think this is a description of the church, of how we should all be busy doing our assignements down here on earth, whatever it is that God has called us to do.  We shouldn't be idle or self-absorbed.  We should be involved, proactive, reaching out, taking care of our families and taking care of our Father's businiess.  Those are my thoughts---what about you?  Feel free below to leave your comments about this much discussed, much loved Proverb.

Verse 30 is powerful.

blessings, Lisa

Proverbs 31

 1 The sayings of King Lemuel—an oracle his mother taught him:

 2 "O my son, O son of my womb,
       O son of my vows,

 3 do not spend your strength on women,
       your vigor on those who ruin kings.

 4 "It is not for kings, O Lemuel—
       not for kings to drink wine,
       not for rulers to crave beer,

 5 lest they drink and forget what the law decrees,
       and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

 6 Give beer to those who are perishing,
       wine to those who are in anguish;

 7 let them drink and forget their poverty
       and remember their misery no more.

 8 "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
       for the rights of all who are destitute.

 9 Speak up and judge fairly;
       defend the rights of the poor and needy."

 10 A wife of noble character who can find?
       She is worth far more than rubies.

 11 Her husband has full confidence in her
       and lacks nothing of value.

 12 She brings him good, not harm,
       all the days of her life.

 13 She selects wool and flax
       and works with eager hands.

 14 She is like the merchant ships,
       bringing her food from afar.

 15 She gets up while it is still dark;
       she provides food for her family
       and portions for her servant girls.

 16 She considers a field and buys it;
       out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

 17 She sets about her work vigorously;
       her arms are strong for her tasks.

 18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
       and her lamp does not go out at night.

 19 In her hand she holds the distaff
       and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

 20 She opens her arms to the poor
       and extends her hands to the needy.

 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
       for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

 22 She makes coverings for her bed;
       she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
       where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

 24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
       and supplies the merchants with sashes.

 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
       she can laugh at the days to come.

 26 She speaks with wisdom,
       and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

 27 She watches over the affairs of her household
       and does not eat the bread of idleness.

 28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
       her husband also, and he praises her:

 29 "Many women do noble things,
       but you surpass them all."

 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
       but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

 31 Give her the reward she has earned,
       and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
