Ever mixed up common household items by accident?!

Not as bad a s super glue. I was making breakfast and half asleep grab the cinnamon for my toast. Took a bite of the strongest cinnamon toast ever. I had sprinkled my toast with cummin. I take the time to look at the whole lable now when I am cooking.

why would you put super glue and eye drops in the same cabinet?

When I was about 9 years old I saw a glass of (what looked like) apple juice sitting on the dining room table. Now, apple juice was a rare treat in my house, so, seeing my opportunity, I chugged it down. To my mouth's chagrin, that amber liquid was not apple juice, it was dish washing soap! I was burping bubbles like the cartoons!

I once put 'lectric shave'(preshave liquid) in a small eye drop container when I was traveling, then forgot what it was and grabbed it in the morning.  

My eyes burned for days!!!

Weeeeell... A few months ago, I was babysitting at the neighbors'.. I didnt have time to finish my hair, so the neighbor said I could finish it there.. Well, I grabbed the hairspray, laid it on, and I realozed it smelled funny.... It was aerosol deodorant......

Funny you both should bring this up. Here is something that is funny but not funny.

When I was in college at a Frat party there were about 100 people in a room around some kegs. (A basic college party)

There were those red 12 oz platic beer cups all over the place. I put my down. Picked another one up by accident. It just happened to be a cup that someone was spitting their chew into. Awwwwwwwww

Scared me for life. Thank god for the lord and his power to heal any health issues from it.

When I was growing up my mother mistook chili powder for cinnamon and put it in our apple sauce. So we had chili applesauce instead of cinnamon applesauce. It did not taste the same as you might imagine!

Yes I put hemorrhoidal cream on my toothbrush. That one was thrown away. I thank God I woke up enough to not brush.

I know my story isn't exactly a " household items" story, but the first time I changed my own oil I drained the transmission fluid by mistake and then proceeded to overfill my engine with oil.... talk about embarassing!! But looking back now I find it hillarious :0)         -wyatt in Indy

About 10 years ago I did the same thing!  My husband was driving at night and I reached in my purse for my eyedrops and accidentally grabbed my nail glue.  Luckily just as it dripped out of the bottle he hit a bump and it missed my eye!  It landed in my eyelashes but it managed to still make my eye burn! It was my lucky day!

While we were on vacation, I brushed my teeth with Icy Hot.  It didn't take me long to spit it out!!!

Once I was in a hurry to bush my teeth and not pay attention I put preparation H of my parents on my tooth brush and starting brushing instead of tooth paste.  Yuck.

I thought I had grabbed Afrin, a nasal spray decongestant. What I had grabbed instead was Visine, antihistimine eye drops.

I didn't realize my mistake until I was trying to figure out why the liquid was all just running down out of the bottle down my face.

Needless to say, I got myself a new bottle of Visine in very short order.

I forgot to mention in my previous comment, once I was on a family trip and I've always kept a small tube of toothpaste in my purse, along with neosporin and a few other necessities... Well, long story short, I forgot my toothpaste, so I dug what I thought was toothpaste out of my purse, put it on my toothbrush and began to brush... come to find out it was neosporin... and it didn't taste good!!

When I was in preschool, our teacher gave us a bag of goodies for Halloween. I reached in and pulled out a small pumpkin. I thought it was chocolate and took a big bite out of it. What an unpleasant surprise to taste CHALK and not CHOCOLATE!

We were camping and a friend was borrowing toothpaste from the grandparents(so he thought.  He grabbed denture glue instead...

One very early morning, several years ago, my husband was rushing off to work.  He had just brushed his teeth and was grabbing his lunch to head out the door.  He noticed a little container of "breath freshener" by the kitchen sink and decided to use a couple squirts before heading out. I hear two big sprays followed by a scream...the container was PEPPERSPRAY, not breath freshener!  His mouth burned for a few hours and he never made that mistake again!

about 3 months ago trying to hurry and not be Late for church I was all ready to go, all I had to do was Brush my teeth.
I got my brush out and found a tube of paste. I squirted out a nice bit of paste and AAgh what is this...
I roll the tube over in my hand and it's Diaper Rash cream.
Oh Man now I gotta get a new tooth Brush.
I'm just happy I didn't put it in my mouth.

My wife accidentally brushed her teeth with Vagisil one night recently.  I refused to kiss her, but told her that her breath was as fresh as a summer's breeze!

My sweet little Grandma went to answer the phone and answered the tv remote insted it took her quite a while to understand she had the remote and not the phone. Silly Grandma!

Yeah, one day I went up my uncles and I had a dr. pepper and I sat it down and he did not know it was mine and he put his cigarette ashes in it and I did not know it and I took a drink from. I almost got sick and now I check my drink up there when I sit it down.

After brushing my teeth i reach for the Listerine and grabbed the Pinesol instead. YUK!!!! It took for ever to get that oily nasty stuff out of my mouth. I haven't used pinsol since, can't stand the smell.

The other night while making dinner, I was adding seasoning to spaghetti.  I accidentally mistook the cayenne pepper for paprika~ well, when it comes to spices in my cooking, a little is good and lots is better.  When we sat down to eat, we took one taste and were all grabbing the water!  We laughed soooo hard!  My poor husband said his lips were so hot he couldn't put them together! I am the only one eating it now since I don't want to waste the left overs.  oops!

My son when he was four following his moms example in applying make-up found what he thought was eye liner and squeezed a tube of super-glue above his eye. It ran down his face gluing his eye shut as well as gluing in place the surprise expression that was on his face. He was fine after a couple of days but for 2 days he walked around looking like a mini Popeye. Very funny

I was new to wearing contacts... the doc gave me this special solution to put them in but warned me to never take the contacts out and put them directly in my eye, to always thoroughly wash them put with renu. The first morning I wolk up and quickly popped my in contact. I had prev been scared to put them in and the eye doctors had to work with me for a week before is do so. The second my contact hit my eye I started to scream. I had forgotten to rinse them out and there was hydrogen peroxide in the solution. I couldn't get my eye open long enough to pull the contact because it burned
and tears were going down my face. My mom came running down the hall and held eye open so I could pull out my contact. My eye was blood red for the whole day!!! It was so painful!

When I was a young kid, my nephew (who was 7 months older than me) and I were always getting into some kind of trouble... One day as my mom and sister were in the kitchen, we snuck into the bathroom and I decided I was going to brush my teeth....  In the other room my mom & sister heard me scream and came to look, the tube I used for toothpaste was really BEN GAY... ouch that burned!! after a long day of work, we had an emergency patient walk in. the patient's mother put super glue in her child's eye instead of antibiotic ointment. my doctor is use to taking care of the geriatric population, not a screaming 10 year old. we had to cut the eyelashes and glue off, but his cornea was pretty scratched.

i personally thought this yellow filled cup in the fridge was apple juice, but it was oil...the taste was horrible!!

My dad woke up in the middle of the night cuz be was thirsty   He grabbed his water bottle and took a swig. he then realized that instead of a water bottle it was hydrogen peroxide. He spent the next couple hours throwing up.

My children help around the house with chores. Having five children means we can get the house cleaned up quickly, when need be. One such time last year I asked my then 8 year old daughter to dust the living room with the spray under the sink. When she was done I noticed the furniture was very shinny. I asked her what spray she used and discovered she had "dusted" with the ant spray. Needless to say, we haven't had any ant trouble in the living room for quite some time. =)

That´s an easy question . Everyday I wake up very very sleepy . I mix the cooking oil with dish detergent . My brain stays in bed when I have to wake up early .

A FEW YEARS AGO I VACUUMED AND DUSTED THE HOUSE IN PREPARATION FOR GUESTS ARRIVING.  AS AN ADDED MEASURE, I GRABBED THE SPRAY BOTTLE OF FABREEZE AND SPRAYED EVERYWHERE!!!  THE LIVING ROOM AND ALL THE CLOTH FURNITURE, THE BEDROOMS AND BED COVERS, THE RUGS . . . YOU NAME IT, I SPRAYED IT!  A FEW HOURS LATER I SAW FABRICS CHANGING COLORS, SPRAY MARKS, ETC.  I PUT ON MY GLASSES, LOOKED AT THE FABREEZE BOTTLE . . . AND SAW THAT I HAD WRITTEN "BLEACH" ON THE BOTTLE.  APPARENTLY, AT AN EARLIER TIME, WHEN I RAN OUT OF FABREEZE I PUT BLEACH IN THE BOTTLE FOR FUTURE BLEACH USE.  I PRETTY MUCH RUINED EVERYTHING THE BLEACH TOUCHED.  

Extremely tired one evening many years ago as I was getting ready for bed I THOUGHT I grabbed the baby oil to remove my eye makeup.  After applying the cotton ball my eyes, they started burning like fire immediately.  It was then that I noticed the smell was that of my finger nail polish remover, not the pleasant baby oil fragrance. I quickly flushed my eyes with water.  They continued to burn and I couldn't sleep because I was worried of waking up blind.  I was blessed to keep my sight and now am able to laugh about it.  

When I was in high school....I wore contacts.  Let's just say instead of grabbing for the saline solution I ended up putting the sterilizer in my eyes.  Yes I also went to the emergency room.  

My mom used to make hummingbird juice and keep it in the fridge. Years ago, at a family gathering, my  uncle helped himself in the fridge and poured a glass of what he THOUGHT was Red kool-aid!! He got a nice suprise!

My mother in law always keeps her Metamusil powder in the exact same kind of jar that we keep our cinammon and sugar and guess what, they look exactly the same!  One of my sons put the Metamusil on his toast instead of cinammon and sugar one morning and he had a very regular day!

One time when my mom and dad were out of town my dad accidently brushed his teeth with hemroid cream instead of tooth paste. It was early in the morning and he wasn't really paying attention, he reach down and picked up a white tube without looking at it, he automatically assumed it was tooth paste, but to his suprise he quickly realized his mistake. He said his mouth and lips were numb for several hours afterwards.

Many years ago when i was getting ready for work One of my morning routines was to iron my clothes then lay down a few minutes to get a few more winks. The phone had rang and woke me up so i grabbed the clothes iron to answer the phone and burned the side of my face. I had the perfect iron imprint with holes and all for a few months. Thankful the scar fianally healed and is not present today. But boy did my friends make fun of me and it was very obviouse what had happened with the perfect iron imprint on my face.

When I was young our family went camping and it was time to brush my teeth.  I was brushing away and the tooth paste tasted terrible.  My mom sent me to get the tube of paste I used.  It was Brylcreem, a hair cream that my Dad used.  I brushed my teeth again but that time with actual tooth paste.  It was a good laugh for everyone but me at the time, but I laugh when I think about it now.

I was running late for work and the last thing I had to do was use hairspray.  Well, what I used wasn't hairspray and I didn't have time to reshower.  That day I wore the fresh scent of
eau-de-lysol.

Many years ago, when my brother was in high school, my mother was washing clothes and measured out a cup of Clorox bleach at the kitchen sink and then went into a different room.  When my brother came home from football practice, he was very thirsty, saw the cup at the sink and swallowed the whole cup before he realized it was not water.  He survived it fine but his voice was hoarse for a couple days and had a bad sore throat.

One day, my brother thought he was being helpful to refill the nearly empty sugar container. When I sipped my coffee later... it was very, VERY salty. Gross.

I can't believe you're talking about this today because we had a mishap just a few hours ago. My mom asked me to put drops in her eyes. I grabbed a bottle that said "Murine," and proceeded to put a drop in her eye. She said it burned terribly. I couldn't imagine why until I took a closer look at the bottle. I had put ear wax remover in her eye. Luckily, she's okay!

On vacation one year (with the WHOLE family) my dad had blistered lips and slathered on the Blistex, only to discover a few minutes later that it was Super Glue - he was so embarrassed that he tried to pick it off - after prying his lips apart - he pulled off quite a bit of skin with it!

Years ago, my mom got a sample of new dish soap in the mail.  It had the same brand name as cooking oil, so my mom cooked eggs with the dish soap.  I didn't eat it but family members of my family who did spent the day in the bathroom.  Yuck!

When I was 17, I started to brush my teeth with my medicated face-wash rather than toothpaste. I have no idea why, and when I realized it; it was  a bit too late. Didnt' taste so great, but hey - taught me to be alert in the early morning!

A co-worker thought my bosses pepper spray was Binaca Blast and sprayed it in her mouth in her way out of the backroom of the retail store where we worked. This was at least 13 years ago.

when i was 6, i was brushing my teeth like most people do every day. Well, it turns out that was a really bad experience and i accidentally grabbed the bengay (heating and cooling cream ) put it on my teeth and it burned for the next couple of hours!!!

I just had a baby and had a bottle of laxitives on my counter. My parents came to visit. My step dad asked my mom for some Ibprophen. He became very ill running for the bathroom every five min. We figured it out when he asked me for the bottle sitting on the counter and discovered my mom was giving him stool softeners that looked like ibprophen. The max dose was 2 per day and my poor step dad was taking 4 every few hours for 2 days. It was a pooppy situatuation.LOL

Last year when I was pregnant I was in the bathroom at work. I went to reach for the hairspray but instead grabbed the lysol. Didn't even realize it as I was going to town with the can until I started to smell lysol. LOL at least my hair was 99% germ free

When my sister went to visit our parents, she arrived late at night.  Not wanting to wake anyone, she found her toothbrush and went to the bathroom to clean her teeth before going to sleep.  Sis opened the vanity drawer, grabbed a tube, squeezed a generous amount of paste on her brush and........Apparently, mom and dad used the same drawer for the Preparation "H".

I have three instances:

1. When I was younger and camping, I came back from a long hike very thirsty and drank gasoline thinking it was pink lemonade.
  
2. When I was a cook, I thought a flat knife was a spatula and used it to taste the food and almost cut my tongue off.  It bled a long time.

3. Later, I mistook insect repellent for mouth spray and sprayed into my mouth.  I call my wife and said calmly, "I think I poisoned myself".

My sister once sprayed her hair with a can of Lysol instead of a can of hairspray.

I had gone to the dentist to get some work done on my teeth.  As I was leaving the hygienist gave me a bottle of non-flavored mouth wash.  She said I might want to taste it and see if I would rather have it flavored. To make a long story short, she gave me a small dropper bottle of concentrated mint flavoring, and yes you guessed it!  The next morning half asleep, I grabbed the flavoring and put drops in my eye.  After a thorough rinsing everything smelled and looked minty for the rest of the day.

I had gone to the dentist to get some work done on my teeth.  As I was leaving the hygienist gave me a bottle of non-flavored mouth wash and a small dropper bottle of concentrated mint flavoring.  You guessed it!  The next morning half asleep I grabbed the bottle of flavoring and put drops in my eye.  After a thorough rinsing, everything smelled and looked minty for the rest of the day!

I always keep a bottle of Cloraseptic throat spray in my bedroom. Sometimes at night I get a tickle in my throat and I need a quick spray so I'll stop coughing. One night I woke up coughing, got out of bed and made my way to the dresser without turning on the lights. I grabbed my Victorias Secret body spray instead. Needless to say, that was the most horrible thing I ever did to my mouth and throat. I will never make that mistake again! I began to wonder if I'd ever get that taste out of my mouth! LOL

Several years back right after I first gotten married my ex-husband said his eye was sore.  I told him I knew just the thing for it and we should be able to get it at the grocery store.  Well  My mom use to put boric acid powder in water and boil it and lay it over our eyes in a wash cloth.  Well I thought that epsom salts was what I was looking for.  Luckily I only used it once and told my mom that he complained it burnt a little.  I didn't remember it ever burning.  Glad nothing bad happened.  He never complained about his sore eye after that.

WOW! My sister glued her eye shut one year while we were on a youth trip! Her eye was red, and my mom said to put the eye drops in her eye. She said that she didn't want to, and it would be fine. Well, my mom forced her to, because we would not be back in the room until late that night, when she finally put the drops in her eye, we realized that they were not eye drops. It was nail glue!!!! The bottles look the same, so being the smart people that my relatives are, they just assumed that they were eye drops, and obviously they were wrong! Afterwards, I was going through my purse, and found out that I had the eye drops the whole time! haha, But we learned our lesson, now we read EVERYTHING before we use it!(:

Early one morning I was trying to get out of my house fast because the house was scheduled to be tented and sprayed for termites.  My close up vision is not so good, and I grabbed a tiny bottle of toenail fungacide which was the same color and shape of my eye drop bottle.  I put the fungacide in one eye and it started to burn !!!   I quickly picked the bottle up and had a second look at it and was horrified to see what I'd just put in my eye !!!
I rinsed my eye out for a good 15 minutes under the faucet and later that day went to the eye doctor to get a professional rinse-out.  
God answered my desperate prayers that morning and my eyesight wasn't damaged.  

I was on vacation with my family and grabbed what I thought was my moms travel toothpaste. Once I brushed my teeth for a second I realized it was definitely not toothaste, it was my moms benadryl cream! I panicked when I read the back of the tube that said to call poison control if consumed, my parents wouldn't take me to the hospital, but to everyones relief I woke up the next morning!  

Many years ago when I was younger our parents had taken us on a vacation and my mother went to brush her teeth with what she thought was toothpaste and ended up being Destin Diaper Rash Creme. Ugh!  

One time I was going to "help" around the house.  I got out the bleach and the ammonia, figuring if one is good, two would be even better.  Mixing those two chemicals is a really bad idea.  My other "helping" hand involves our former toaster.  I wanted to get all those crumbs out of it so sprayed it with canned air - 3m Dust Remover.  Then popped in a couple pieces of bread, pushed down the handle - then the fun began.  The explosion was quite large and unexpected.  I know the eyebrows will grow back.  Wish I could say the same for the toaster.  Oh well, there were no cumbs in it anyway! By the way, I am 62 years old, my wife of nearly 40 years tells me men will never change!

Well... this wasn't really an accident, but um... about ten years ago I set up my brother's shampoo bottle with a bottle of Nair (hair depilatory).  Sorry, bro!

Callista...now that is priceless. ROFL Worse thing I had the nerve to do back when I was kid I tricked my much younger brother into drinking lemon juice. He took a big drink of it. Boy did he make some faces. He was only about 2 at the time and I was 13.

We have an electric kettle, and every once and a while my mom will boil vinager in it to clean it. Well, one winter, she had just finished cleaning it with vinager, when I decided to make some hot chocolate. I poured what I thought was hot water into my cup, stirred it up a bit, and took a huge gulp. Let's just say that now I check what's in the kettle before I drink it.

It was late at night and i wasn't paying attention to what i was grabbing for my tooth paste. It ended up being face wash. Grossest thing ive ever done.

I just woke up to a burning in my arm pits.  I have apparently used BenGay roll on, that I have beside my bed as deodorant.  I must have done it in my sleep, and only RIGHT NOW, is the burning slowly weakening.  I feel stupid.  It is 6:30 am, and I have an important meeting this morning that I must get up at 7:30am to get showered and ready.  Not sure what I was dreaming about, BUT, I am defiantly putting the roll on BenGay somewhere OTHER than my bed side.
