Love Does

"This one goes out to the world changer, Shining your light in the face of danger" -Brandon Health, Love Does.

That song was inspired by Bob Goff’s book, Love Does. It’s about how love isn’t a feeling, love is a decision, and action that you put into practice every day.

After all - that’s what Jesus said is the most important commandment, to love, to be an example of God's love to the world. I have this family motto based on that;  "See needs and meet them, change the way the world sees God one life at a time."

Today, that opening lyric really got to me as we try to wrap our brain around how so much hate was displayed in what happened with the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

But, at the same there was so much love. Are you wondering, where was God when this happened? I don't know for sure, but it sure looks to me like he was working through the staff at a restaurant that ran to the injured, the bystanders that tore apart the temporary fence to get to those that were hurt, the runners that crossed the finish line - and kept running to the hospital to give blood. That's love. God is love.

"These types of events can completely deflate you, or invigorate you to bring change to this world.  It's up to you."

Love Does.

I just want to be clear, I don’t have it all figured out, but I’m trying.

There's a lyric that really sticks out from the song, “One Thing Remains”, by Kristian Stanfill.

It overwhelms and satisfies my soul.

It’s talking about God's love for you and I. It is enough to completely fulfill us, if we let it.

I admit, I don't always feel like it overwhelms and satisfies. I want it to, but I find myself reaching for other things, that never work.

For example, Moose Trax Ice cream is good and filling, but in the end (or bottom of the carton) you just feel bad about yourself.

It's a process. If you find yourself reaching for things to satisfy you, but you never feel filled. Join me in praying,

“God, please help me let you overwhelm and satisfy my soul.”
