Turning Ashes Into Beauty

It's a good day for a fresh new start. If your life feels like a pile of ashes today, the Bible says that God can turn that pile of ashes into beauty.  You just have to let Him.

You might see some people walking around today with something on their

face. It’s on purpose.

It’s Ash Wednesday.

Whether you recognize this day as a religious holiday or not,  I think there’s a good lesson in it.

I heard a pastor once explain Ash Wednesday like this:

"When the ash mark sits on your forehead we feel marked because, well,

we are marked. The ashes designate that we are real sinners. It’s embarrassing to go around town that way on Ash Wednesday, but that’s the point.  But, at the end of the day, you can do exactly what Jesus says: wash your face.  You’re forgiven.”

Usually we’re all just really good at covering up the fact that we are all sinners. We pretend to be perfect.Today exchange your ashes for beauty.

"To all who mourn in Israel,[a]

he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,

a joyous blessing instead of mourning,

    festive praise instead of despair.

In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks

that the Lord has planted for his own glory."

- Isaiah 61:3

Who You Are

You can never fall too hard,
So fast, so far
That you can't get back
-Unspoken "Who You Are"

That song is personal for the lead singer, of the band Unspoken, Chad Mattson.

Chad grew up in a Christian home, was involved in church as a kid, but as a young adult he fell into drugs.

He is now clean and telling his story of recovery.  I don’t know about you, but his story is a great encouragement not to let your past mistakes limit your future.  After all, he’s not, and you don't have to either.

Like these lyrics from their song, "Who You Are".

Where you are is never too late,
So bad, so much
That you can't change
Who you are.
