The "If Only" in Life

Have you've ever found yourself saying, "if only I had (fill in the blank) I'd be happy"?

The funny thing is that when you get that (fill in the blank), the happiness only lasts for a short period of time.  You're left unfulfilled again, searching for the next thing.

Watching the Super Bowl commercials last night seemed like a new list of "if onlys." If only I switched brands of soda or if only got a new car. That would make me oh so happy. And yeah, a new car would make me happy, for the time being.

But, if you're looking for long-lasting fulfillment, the new car smell or a new soda is not quite going to do it.

In the Bible there's a story about Jesus meeting a woman at a well.  This woman was not the kind of church-going girl who religious people were supposed to talk to, but Jesus talked to her anyway. She was the kind of woman that was seeking fulfillment through relationships with men.

It's easy to judge her. However, when you think about it, we all seek fulfillment and happiness in "things".  Whether it's a person, a new house or a new car.  It's the same thing.  It's fleeting.

Jesus said, "Whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more.  But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) continually within him unto eternal life."  -John 4:14 (AMP)

4 Food Groups of Football

Everyone once in a while you meet someone and it feels like you've been friends forever.  That's the way Christy Jordan made me feel when I met her.

We were both on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic in December to deliver the 100 millionth shoebox to children in need through Operation Christmas Child.  The whole time, she talked about the delicious food she cooks for her family, and she made me so hungry!

Christy describes herself as: "Author, Publisher of SouthernPlate.com, Contributing Editor Taste of The South, Mama, Alabamian, Hoarder of Pyrex and fresh watermelon."  She is an amazing and talented personality, and has a heart to serve God.  Love her!

So naturally, she is the first person I called today when talking about Super Bowl food! She said, "I really don't think calories count, all is forgiven on Super Bowl Sunday, just go forward with a sense of peace and start cooking!"

Check out how she describes the Four Food Groups of Football:  Salty, Crunchy, Saucy, and Sweet!
