Maybe you’ve experienced this too.  You offer to help someone…..and there’s that awkward moment…where they don’t accept your help..and then you feel bad for offering…

Happened at the grocery store yesterday.  In line and there’s a guy that was dressed in fatigues…behind me in line with just a gallon of milk.  I had a full cart of salad and mac and cheese. 

I hesitated…I wanted to offer to help a soldier…here’s my opportunity!  Finally got the guts up to ask if I could buy his groceries and get him out of the store quicker…he hesitated and got kind of embarrassed and said “no that’s okay.”

Oh man…maybe I did the wrong thing…I wish he would have let me do it. 

Sometimes it’s good to accept someone’s offer for help…they want to help you…it makes both of you feel good. 

Kind of like how God loves you.  He offers you this thing called Salvation…forgiveness, and doesn’t ask for anything in return, accept your acceptance.  That’s it.  You don’t have to keep this list of rules to earn his love.  You just say I believe, I accept. 

"God saved you by his grace when you believed.  And you can't take credit for this; it's a gift from God."  Ephesians 2:8

Maybe you were like this too…as a kid you identified so much with your toys…

If you were a child of the 80’s…you weren’t just playing with Barbie and the Rockers….you were Barbie and the rockers.  Boys, not just pretending to be GI JOE…you were GI Joe. 

Now Disney has developed a new princess that your girls might identify with.  She’s a young girl, not a grown woman.  When you think about it Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are grown women…dating and getting married.

And now we have “Sofia the First”  She’s a little girl that becomes a princess when her mom marries the king of her storybook world.  It’s a blended family.  She gets a step brother and a step sister in it too.  Sounds like a fairy tale that lines up a little bit more with the real world.  Thank you! 

Disney says, “although Sofia will have plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes, our stories will show Sofia and our viewers, that what makes a real princess is what’s inside not what’s outside…that the inner character of kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty, and grace make you special, not the dress you wear.  She’s a relatable girl experiencing the same social issues as our young viewers…learning how to fit in, making new friends, conquering new skills and building sibling relationships”

Thank you Disney for making a fairy tale world a little bit more real, and for helping our girls not grow up so fast.

The "Sofia" movie will debut in fall 2012, with the TV series following in spring 2013
