Just Give

Losing weight and getting out of debt are top on the list for New Year's Resolutions, also making the top 10, Helping Others.

Check out what these people are doing:

Attorney Gives House to Homeless Family

A 51-year-old man is moving back in with his parents so a homeless family can live in his house instead. Tony Tolbert’s offer is good for one full year.
Tony Tolbert’s offer is good for one full year. According to CBS, the spare bedroom in his childhood home in Los Angeles frequently went to people in need, which inspired his own version of the act.
Just goes to show that when you are generous, your kids are paying attention, and grow up to be just like you!
You don't have to be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet or Oprah," Tolbert, a Harvard-educated attorney, told CBS in the video here. "We can do it wherever we are, with whatever we have, and for me, I have a home that I can make available."
Speaking of Warren Buffet, he made the list for the Biggest Giver in 2012.  He gave $3.09 billion in stock to be divided equally among three foundations run by his children.  Mark Zuckerberg gave $498.8 million to Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support education and health.  That's crazy money!  Crazy generosity.  But, it's all about perspective.
Reminds me of this story of Jesus and the Widow.  She gave crazy money too.
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” -Mark 12:41-44
How will you help others in 2013?

Cheering You On...

If you think it’s too late for you, or you’re too out of shape to even try to get healthy again, check out the story of my friend, John.

John used to be my boss at a Christian radio station in Washington D.C.  About 5 years ago he got on a health kick and lost half his body weight.  He lost over 100 pounds just by eating healthy and walking.  He was an inspiration.  He became a cheerleader for others to get healthy, get moving.

By loosing all that weight, he got a second chance in life, and he made the most out of it. It’s a good thing he did because no one knew that his life was going to be cut short. He passed away this morning after a sudden illness. He died too young.  It’s funny how sometimes loss can be your greatest inspiration.

If you made a new year’s resolution to change your life, be healthy, loose weight, or whatever, don’t give up!  There are lots of skeptics that will say you will break it. Maybe even you are your own skeptic.  Ignore them. Ignore the voice of doubt.  I am here cheering you on!!

"May the voices that cheer you on, be louder than the voices that don't" -www.traceyclark.com

If you really want a change, or improve something in your life, go after it with reckless abandon.   It’s a cliché, but it’s true; you never know how long you have.  Do everything you can to live this life that you have been given to the fullest.

You only get one trip around the block.  Make it count.

Live fully, love fully,

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline" -2 Timonthy 1:7 (NLT)
