It's About Trust

Chris Tomlin’s song “I Will Follow” (Amazon | iTunes) is stuck in my head today.

"Where you go I’ll go…Where you stay I’ll Stay…where you move I move…I will follow…"

I’m singing it over and over, but not sure I can actually do it.  It sounds like such a good idea, if God tells you to go, you go, to move and you will move.  But, then you think about it, “wait, what about the house, the kid’s school, and my friends?”

It started at church on Sunday when we sang that song during worship, and then the pastor read from Matthew 7.  I followed along in my Bible, and noticed that I had written something in the margin years ago.

“The life of God is NOT going to fall into my lap. Instead of picturing having Jesus next to you along for the ride…put Him in the drivers seat…and don’t suggest a different route.”

It was written with an arrow pointing at the verse about the narrow gate.  It talks about who gets to go to heaven.

"Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

You might think that the only way to get through that gate is to be good enough.  You might think, well that counts me out!  I used to.

My pastor said something about that verse on Sunday that totally changed my view.  He said, "To get through that gate…it’s not about keeping all the rules, it’s about TRUST."

Who's Driving?

Who's driving?

I was brave recently, and asked a friend if they had a relationship with God.   That person said they picture Jesus sitting next to them in their car.  That's good.   I actually like to think of Him driving my car.

I heard Bishop TD Jakes say once, "Wonder how much peace we had in our own lives if we stopped setting our own goals and said, it's doing exactly what it's suppsed to do.

If it's working, it's working because it's supposed to.  If it's not working, it's not supposed to.  It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do."

Your time is too precious to spend on something that is not your passion, and is not your purpose.

Whether it's a relationship with a friend, a job, or a dream.  If it's working, it's because it's supposed to.  If it's not working it's not supposed to.
