Make Your Life Count

Had a friend tell me once…”You only get one trip around the block in life…make it count.”

You’re inspiring today as we are talking about the Happiest Places to Work in America, and what makes your office the happiest place to work.  Seems the key is to know your making a difference that brings you joy.

A woman who cleans home says she prays for the family as she’s cleaning their toilet, and knows that they will smile when they get home.

A massage therapist who knows that people sleep better because of what she does for a living.

There’s a story today about an American woman who chose a job that makes a difference, but it put her life at risk.

Jessica Buchanan was working with the Danish government to deactivate land mines in Somalia.  She’s 32 years old.  She volunteered for this position, but last October she was kidnapped by some bad guys.  Her family has been really worried about her health.

Last night, they had a breakthrough.  Like something out of a Hollywood movie…A helicopter landed in the camp where she was being held hostage along with a Danish Man…it was full of US Navy Seals.  They rescued Jessica and her coworker…

She’s safe.  Just makes you proud to be an American today…Yeah…Go Navy Seals!  Now there’s a job that’s pretty fulfilling too.

Would love to know how you make your “trip around the block” in life count…

You Can Stand the Heat

When you go through change in life you tend try new crazy things.  Maybe you have an experience like this.

I remember when I became a single mom, I needed something to do on the night my kids were visiting their Dad, so I decided to try one of those HOT exercise classe, where’s it’s 104 degrees in the room for 90 minutes. It’s crazy.

I remember telling my therapist how much I loved it, and that the goal was just to stay in the room the whole time, to not give up.

She said, “sounds a lot like your life.”

Maybe that’s why this woman did this, just a guess.  They call her an Adventurer, Felicity Aston, just became the first woman to ski solo across Antarctica

She hauled two sledges around crevasses and over mountains into endless headwinds, pushing onward and onward for 59 days in near-total solitude, and covered over 1-thousand miles.

First thought in my head, “WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO DO THAT!”  I searched online, but couldn’t find the answer, but, I did find out what she learned.

She said, "If you can just find a way to keep going, whether you're running a marathon, facing financial problems, or it's tough at work…if you can just find a way to keep going, then you will discover that you have potential within yourself that you never realized.  Keeping going is the important thing, persevering, no matter how messy it gets.  Because at some point in the future you'll look back and just be amazed at how far you've come.”

Know what she means.  I’m there now.
