So many times as a child you were probably asked that…maybe you said a fireman, or a teacher…
That was the dream for a young girl from West Virginia, but her family could not afford to send her to college
So when she was 18 she joined the army, to earn the money for school, when she was 19 she was in Iraq as an Army supply clerk…Her company took a wrong turn and came under attack…11 of her fellow soldiers died, she survived, but became a prisoner of war. After 9 horrific days, the nation watched as special forces rescued a young blond woman on a stretcher out of an Iraqi hospital.
Today, she’s 28, and tonight on badly damaged legs and a painful right foot, she’ll walk across a stage and get her education degree. She will be a teacher, but she’s already been teaching all of us.
Jessica Lynch has completed her mission.
She told a reporter, "It's tough to walk, but I look at it as, 'At least I'm walking,'" "At least I have my legs. They may not work. I have no feeling in the left one. But it's attached, at least. ... At least I'm alive."
Sure puts circling the mall for a parking spot into perspective.
