Maybe you’ve heard this too, that just holding the hand of the one you love can make you feel less pain. It’s not just emotional comfort, but studies show it makes a physical difference in your body.
There’s a beautiful true love story of a married couple from Iowa that prove that holding hands does even more then lessen pain, it can sustain life.
Norma and Gordan got engaged the day, Norma, graduated from high school in 1939. They have been married for 72 years.
Last Wednesday they were in the car together headed into town when suddenly they had an accident. It wasn’t good. They were gravely injured.
Norma and Gordan were put in the same room in the ICU upon their sons request. Although not able to speak to each other, they were holding hands.
Their son, Dennis Yeager, said, "It was really strange, they were holding hands, and dad stopped breathing but I couldn't figure out what was going on because the heart monitor was still going. But we were like, he isn't breathing. How does he still have a heart beat? The nurse checked and said that's because they were holding hands and it's going through them. Her heart was beating through him and picking it up."
They both passed away. Together. Holding hands.
Here’s another story from a listener, Amanda, on how holding hands has made a difference in her life too:
Thankful for my husband by K-LOVE Radio
Not that’s a real love story. I actually think it’s a perfect picture of how God can be a part of your life. He promises:
"For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." -Isaiah 41:13
If the comfort of a loved one can cause less pain and give you emotional comfort, imagine how much more God can make a difference in your life if you just let Him in.
