Not so Silent Night

Maybe it’s one of your favorite moments of Christmas too…the end of the Christmas eve service…when one by one…you light your candle…trying not to spill hot wax on the person next to you…and you watch the candlelight spread and fill the room…and you end the evening with Silent Night….trying to remember all the verses.  Just the best.

But when you think about it…not to be sacrilegious or anything…I don’t think it really was a silent night.

Thing about it…a woman giving birth in a barn without  a doctor anything to relieve her pain…a newborn…animals…and even the bible says angels singing.  The song says:  Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!

It’s kind of silly…but when you think about what the birth meant…how could you keep silent about it.

My favorite verse of Silent is this one:

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "

The beginning of forgiveness…I prefer “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”  But, I’m kind of loud anyway…Maybe we’ll just call it the Not So Silent Night
