Some songs are more than just a song.. When you hear it you are transported to a place back in time. You remember what you were feeling, maybe even the way it smelled in the room where you hear it.
Had one of those moments when I heard Jennifer Hudson's tribute to Whitney Houston at the Grammy's.
Her song "The Greatest Love of All" transports me back to my mom's kitchen, doing dishes the old fashioned way (by hand) and my sister and I grabbing the wooden spoons and pretending they were microphones.
Whitney's legacy will hopefully be the impact her songs had on us, not her mistakes. That's what we all want, really. For people to remember the good times, not the bad. The things you did right, not the things you did wrong.
Just so sad. Her surprising death at 48 years old, and the fact that she leaves behind an 18 year old daughter makes you think about what your family and friends will remember about you when you are gone.
Hopefully my kids will remember my love for them, and remember me carrying on the "singing with wooden spoons" tradition, thankfully they'll probably never remember washing dishes by hand, that's what that new fangled invention called a dishwasher is for!
What good times do you want your family to remember about you...
