When you don't know what to say.
Maybe you've had this experience too, when a friend has unloaded or confided in you and you were left speechless.
That happened to me yesterday when a friend of mine sent me a text that said, "I just got fired!" I felt so bad, and I didn't want to say the wrong thing like well God must have something else planned for you! I don't think she was ready for that. In the moment she was hurting.
It reminded me of this thing I read in the book "Love Does" by Bob Goff. So, I shared it with her.
He was fired from one of his first jobs as a waiter after a very embarrassing accident. Here is what he learned from that experience:
"The thing I love about God is He intentionally guides people into failure…Failure is just part of the process, and it's not just okay; it's better than okay. God doesn't want failure to shut us down. God didn't make it a three-strikes-and-you're-out sort of thing. It's more about how God helps us dust ourselves off so that we can swing for the fences again. And all of this without keeping a meticulous record of our screw-ups…Finding things and losing things is what the Bible is all about. God even seemed to encourage it. He talked about losing your job, or even your life, if you want to find it."
