Sometimes when you don’t have a specific elaborate plan, you have the most fun.
Like yesterday for example. My kids were with their Dad for Fourth of July so I didn’t plan anything big. Just work and maybe run some errands, take advantage of the sales.
But, a friend of mine wouldn’t have that. She said, “you’re coming with me.” So went to a neighborhood pool party and cookout (even though I wasn’t a neighbor). Even though things weren’t the way I would have chosen them to be, I found happiness.
As I helped put hot dogs on a plate for my friends kids and kept them away from the fireworks she was setting off in the cul-de-sac, I thought I’m not sure it’s exactly how the founding father’s envisioned us celebrating their act of treason in signing the Declaration of Independence, 263 years later. I think it’s better than they ever dreamed.
I thought about that famous passage that Thomas Jefferson wrote in that Declaration:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
So far, life hasn't turned out the way I planned, but I refuse to sit and wallow or give up. I will continue to pursue happiness. Join me!
It just might turn out better than I dreamed.
