A Simple Christmas

I'm trying really hard to turn the page from Thanksgiving to Christmas today.  You might already be decorated, and have your shopping almost done.

When I first started seeing decorations go up in my neighborhood over the weekend, my first feeling was to be stressed out.  I thought about all that there was to do, and all the money that I was about to spend.

So, when my little sunshines came back from visiting with their Dad for Thanksgiving, I decided to change my attitude about Christmas even if I had to force it.

So, I pushed through, and pulled out the boxes of decorations, made hot chocolate in those cheesy Christmas mugs, and even took the 3 kids to pick out a Christmas tree.  I even managed to get it from the top of my minivan on a stand in my living room almost straight.

The last thing we did was set up the Nativity Scene.  As I set out the camel, Mary and Joseph, the angel, and the kid's favorite part, baby Jesus.  It reminded me what we're really celebrating is so very simple.  We can make it so complicated.  We can make it about the list, we can make our life about keeping all these rules, but really it's this baby born, to save us from all that.  To set us free.

There's a new poll that found almost half of americans said they would rather skip this time of year because of financial pressure, and stress level.

If you're feeling that way today, here is some help on how to change your attitude. I heard a pastor once say, think of it like picking up a remote and changing the channel on the TV.  Change the channel from your worries in your brain, and focus it this time of year on helping someone else.

Who will you help this Christmas?
