You Gotta Laugh At Life, Otherwise...
I had what they call an Epic Fail moment this week. I forgot it was Picture Day at my son's school. So now preserved for eternity will be my son in a yearbook with messy hair and a t-shirt that says, "It Wasn't Me."
After school when I picked him up and I got that proof and it hit me. My face must have turned very pale, my heart started racing, I felt like every parent and teacher in that school were now judging me because I forgot. It wasn't even about my poor son, he didn't care.
For some reason I took it as a personal failure and something else that the school would judge me about. Of course the single, working, mom would make a mistake like that. His t-shirt saying of "It Wasn't Me" should have had the subtitle underneath "it was my overextended mom."
For some reason, I feel like I have to work even harder, have everything more perfect to make up for the fact that our family doesn't look perfect. But, when I got home, relaxed, I really looked at that picture, I saw my son's sweet smile, and I realized that's all that matters.
He's happy. I could choose to get mad and cry about it, or just laugh and proudly frame it and put it up on the wall as a reminder, not to ever forget picture day again!
