Favorite question to ask people: Why do you do what you do.
Asked that question of this woman over the weekend, and I'm still thinking about her answer.
It was at one of those old-fashioned towns where people dress up in authentic 1800's outfits, and there's a blacksmith and a general store.
Well, there was this one woman, Kathy, who was working on a real spinning wheel. She took the time with my kids and explained how it works. She explained how women used to take the wool from sheep and spin it into yarn to make clothes for their family.
I asked her, why she spends her time now in her retirement doing this.
Then she explains that the spinning wheel she was working on was over 200 years old. She said that when she uses it she prays - thanking God for the women that worked on it, earning money for their families, using it to make clothes for their families. Then she asks God to remind her the strength of the women that came before us.
She does it to honor them.
Made me think about what I could do to honor them too. I think it's to keep going, be brave, be courageous, and continue to set a good example of hard work for my children.
