Proper Motivation

“Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown." - Ross Perot

I learned that lesson the hard way yesterday. I quit.

There's something you may know not about me, but I'm one of those crazy Crossfit girls.  I love the intensity of it, but more importantly I love how strong it makes me, physically and mentally.

Yesterday, I was competing in a little tire pull competition.  You know those big tractor tires, well we crazy Crossfit girls run while pulling them.  I was trying to beat the best time of women in my gym.  Right now I'm in third.  I hate third.  I'm extremely competitive.

So, I went for a second round.  My coach asked, "what can I say to get you fired up during that last stretch?"  I told him, remind me of _____ (a person that wronged me who will not be named!)  I thought it would make me mad enough to want to conquer that tire pull.

But, when I got to that point where I couldn't pull anymore, the thought of the past hurt made me collapse.  I literally fell on the ground and barely crawled across that finish line.  Defeated.

I found out that if I would have remained standing and just walked, I would have beat my best time.  In Crossfit we call that a PR, Personal Record.

Reflecting on the past is never going to help you win.  If you live your life carrying around, bitter about every single bad thing someone has done to you, or bad thing you did yourself, it will only leave you on the ground, unable to move forward, defeated.

Oh Lord, free us from that.  I don't know about you, but I don't want to be that kind of woman.

I'm going try that tire pull race again.  And this time in that last stretch uphill to the finish line, I will ask my coach to pray for me.  I will ask him to quote God's word, and to remind me of how far I've come, and what is possible when you let go of defeat, and say hello to courage.

"let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." -Hebrews 12:1

BRING IT!!!

Amen, Amanda! As you've clearly demonstrated, anger and bitterness will never get us where we want to go. Sharing your experiences will help so many people! Thank you!
