I received this Ten Gallon award for blood donations at a donor banquet!  The program was complete with stories of folks, kids and adults, who have been given another chance at life because of blood donations. A great way to make a difference in someone else's life is to give the gift of life giving blood!

Thank you for doing your part, actually more than your part. Thank you.

I am a blood donor also - and am also O+.

Last year I passed the 100 unit donation mark, the majority of which have been platelet donations. The blood center had a banquet specifically for platelet donors. We too had people stand up and share their stories. Our platelets are given to cancer patients. We heard from hospital staff, donor staff, and family and cancer patients who's lives have been saved from having received platelets.

The blood center recently changed their guidelines and now anyone who has ever been pregnant is no longer able to donate platelets, and I am thus deferred. It breaks my heart that I can't donate platelets anymore and I ask everyone who has never been pregnant, to PLEASE consider donating.  I still donate whole blood every 8 weeks - whole blood is better than no blood.

Please share with your listeners that they can donate platelets as frequently as every two weeks, and cancer patients often need multiple units of platelets at one time - and the platelets you donate WILL save their lives.
