What $5 Can do?

First I think you should call this M.A.D. (Making a Difference) Monday.  We just had a talent show fundraiser at our church and used the M.A.D. theme.

My idea for making a difference is something I read in a book.  I have what the author called a God pocket.  Whenever I have some extra cash, coins, etc. I put them in the envelope.  Once they are in the envelope, I can only use them for what God shows me to do with them.  Each day I ask that God show me someone who needs the money I have.  It can be as little as $1.  He has shown me a family whose home burned down, a man in church who lost his job and I am waiting on the next person.  It is something as little as not buying that cup of coffee a couple of days a week and putting that money in the envelope.  Someday I want to have $100 in their and really bless someone big time!  It really feels great to be able to give, especially because our family's situation is in such need.  I think the only way to deal with, in our situation, a financial crisis is to give away something to other people.  Our focus has to be on others.  

I attend the Church of The Brethren. We have a fund raiser for the Heifer Project. The church collects money and sends a heifer, lamb, or duck over seas. This project was started after the Spanish Civil War. This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Since 1944, Heifer has helped 8.5 million people in more than 125 countries. Check out the  website for more information.

Your talking about what 5 dollars can do. We were studying The truth project at Sunday school and the parable of the talons came up, everyone agreed that one of the best ways to use the 5 dollars would be to get 5 dollars in seed and plant it, then give to the needed. around this time someone from our monday night small group herd about this church in Skowhegan Maine where the pastor made his church a homeless shelter and God was working mightily there, one of our group members went and reported to us that you could feel the Holy Spirit there, we went and I was choked up the whole time there. This church needs to be lifted up in our prayers. God now has provided funds for a large dormitory style building outside the church and now it is under attack by satan, the code inforcement people are hindering the completion of the building. Prayer needed. Back to the 5 dollars, I was hoping you could air this. God Has laid it on the heart of this group to designate a row in our gardens to give to this church in Skowhegan Maine, 5 dollars in seed,God is in charge of life in the garden, who knows what he will do with the seed. If we all did a row in our gardens, your already working your garden anyways so the extra work involved will be minimal. The name of the church I will have to get to you.

The other day I was in the store and the lady in front of me didnt have enough cash. I tried to pay the what she needed (it wasnt much) she said no I have one of those cards (debit cards. so she got it out and used it (apparently didnt use it often) and turned to me and said thank you. People dont even offer any more. My boyfriend said she missed out on a blessing by letting me pay for it. So I didnt get to but I did try. I think it blessed her me just trying.

ps I am a single mom also and yes someone can make a difference in our lives. Maybe with $5 or just saying I will take your kids somewhere today so you can have some quite time! ( I have two teenagers not much quite time here!)

Oh...I was excited about 'Make a Difference Monday' today.  I was running late for work anyway...so I decided to stop and pick up a bagel and cream cheese....and also decided I would give my $5. to whom God lead me to give it to, (along with the cool "Make a Differnce Monday" card I printed off your website...and use when I do this).
I got out of my car and saw a man cleaning the windows of the place I was going into.  I knew he was the 'one'.. then....I saw his friend on the other side doing the same thing..  Hmmmm...so ok.  I got out $10. and put it in the Make a Difference Monday card.  And on my way out I said to the one guy.  Can you come out here by your friend?  So I looked at them and said..'Oh...it's Make a Difference Monday"!!  Please read this and share what's enclosed.  Know that God loves you and God bless your day."  They said back.  Thank you and God bless you too!  I said: "OH..He does! Thanks".
They immediately went right back to work. I didn't even see them look inside the 'card', but I know God was there and does and will touch them as only He can.
What a wonderful way to start my Monday.

I'm a student at UC Davis, and I'd been looking for a Christian Club to belong to, because I felt like I wasn't as Christian as my Christian friends.

It was cold and wet, and at UCD if you don't Bike, you Bus. I have more learning disabilities than I know what to do with...including dyslexia with numbers and an almost nonexistent concept of time.

So I missed my bus, and I missed my class. Without a bike, I had to walk in the rain to my next class. I had an hour, and I was passing main campus bookstore, smelling lunch. It was lunchtime .

I'm always told I have a very, very bad handle on money management...and I saw someone WEARING a sandwich billboard  with "FREE LUNCH" written on it. I laughed when I saw it, and was approached by the sign-wearer and her companion....

They asked me if I'd like a free lunch.

I was tired of being told I was wrong, and lazy, and naive, and gullible. So I asked, "What's the catch?"

Jeff said "There's no catch," and Nicole said "We'd like to talk to you about your religious beliefs."

I went kinda crazy happy, (sorry guys...). And since they offered to pay for my lunch, I insisted on buying it myself. It was awesome. Things happen that we can't control, so I'm not @ UCD now.

Intervarsity Christian Club - that's what you can do with five dollars!

Love the fact you are highlighting The Mocha Club! I support it and love that what I feel is little in giving can make such a huge difference!

2009, I HAD A VERY ROUGH YEAR...AND LANDED AT THE ATASCADERO, HOMELESS SHELTER (ECHO-FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH) MY HEART WAS TOTALLY BROKEN BUT NOT MY SPIRIT. Three days of being there I registered at
Laurus College-Atascadero. Every morning I would go to Atascadero Sunken Gardens by the water-fountain to PRAY & LISTEN TO "MY" K-LOVE W/HEADPHONES.....DANCIN WITH JESUS IN FRONT OF GOD & EVERYONE ELSE TOO... In March 2010 I rented a room in a beautifull house. My life has totally turned around... now Ive been going to school for six month's. And i'm 48. Loving Life. $"s tight so all i have for a radio is my lil radio & headphones.(when Eric was looking for what to do with his $5. bucks I tried to call in and ask if he would buy me some batteries!) JESUS
