Lisa had a great time speaking to 3rd & 4th graders at a church camp last night! She was given the topic of sharing on days 4-7 on Creation and thanks to K-LOVE listener Stephanie (a lawyer from Indianapolis), she had these amazing thoughts and insight into the 7th day of Creation. See her notes below (and thanks Stephanie!)
o Well, we’re going to talk about the Sabbath today, and the Sabbath is the day that God rested after he created the heavens and the earth and everything in them.
o Would you be tired if you created the whole universe in seven days? Did you know that God never gets tired? He never needs a rest! But He rested anyway, because He wanted to show us that He knows what we need. We need a rest sometimes because we’re just human beings.
o Here’s what the bible says, in Genesis 2:1-3:
So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. (NLT)
o What else did God do on the seventh day besides rest? (He blessed it and declared it holy) What does holy mean?
o So the Sabbath is not just a regular rest, it’s a special rest that God made holy by blessing it.
o In the book of Hebrews, God tells us more about his special, holy rest, and I’m going to read some of that to you now, from Hebrews 4:1-3 and 6-7:
God's promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. So God's rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. (NLT) (emphasis added)
o This is kind of a hard question, but what do you think God is telling us we need to do to have his special rest? (accept Jesus into our hearts, have the Holy Spirit)
o When can we have his special rest when Jesus is in our hearts? (right now!!!! all the time!!!)

- We aren’t like God at all, we’re just human beings. This means we need to rest and obey God so we can do the work he has for us while we’re here on the earth. We need to have “regular” rest for our bodies and our minds, like when it’s summer and we just have fun swimming and playing outside, and we also need to have the special, holy rest that God tells us about in the bible. So I’m going to say our closing prayer now, and while I’m doing that, I want you to think to yourself about what things you can do to have that special rest with God.
