I have heard and seen this many times and every time it does not fail to bring a tear to my eyes.  It it a terrible thing that in this country so many have forgotten what this nation stands for.  I remember Red Skelton as I was growing up.  He was a great man.

Thank you so much for putting this up.  I sent this to my husband who is a pilot.  I've asked him to play if for the gentlemen there in the hanger with him just a as a little reminder of what those words mean for us all.

This is why I stood up for service in the world greatest army, The United States of America. Enjoy the 4TH OF July, and remember our history that makes us the good ole USA.

I agree this is a nice salute to the pledge, however I couldn't help but be bothered be the words under God left out. I did a little research on the subject and evidently under God was not put in the Pledge till 1954. This skit was done in 1969. I am sure Mr. Skelton was taught the Pledge without under God, but I still couldn't help but notice. Seems my ears are more keen to these things these days!

Mr. Skelton explained why he left out "under God" in his quote of the Pledge.  He explained that when his teacher read the Pledge and added the word-for-word meaning the "under God" was not in the Pledge.  Go back and listen to the rest of Red Skelton's comments.  He had more to say about "under God" that applies to today.

Listening to this gave me the chills.  I think this should be showed in the class room so that the children know what they are saying means.  You have a wonderful show and I get encouragement each morning as I drive to work and on the way home.

Thanks & God Bless

I just want to clarify something that is stated in the comment by J. A. Bowden.  A couple of things that must be remembered about this clip.  Mr. Skelton was born on July 18, 1913.  This would have made him going to school in the 1920's.  The clip expresses the statements made by Mr. Skeltons principal, hence the words "Under God" were not yet put into the Pledge.  As stated these words were not added until 1954.  At the end of the clip Mr. Skelton addresses this and specifically states that it would be a shame if the pledge would "now" be called a prayer and disallowed in schools.

Thank you for sharing that.  I was in the US Navy and watched the program in the barracks.  I went to the mid-watch in Communications/Intelligence with pride that night, not only for the pledge, but for Mr. Skelton.  He deserves much more credit for being a Christian and Patriot than he ever received.  His most impressive line, to me, was to the effect, that if you have to use vulgarity, you are not a comedian.
Response to JA Bowen.  You quite listening too soon.  I suggest you relisten--many times, and think about what he said.

I was only 5 back when Mr. Skelton was on TV but I grew up w/ him; Dad would watch him in hysterics after a long week at work.  After listening to his tribute and explanation of "our pledge of allegiance", I am moved!  I even got goose-bumps and rarely do.  Thank you for sharing and thanks to Lisa & Eric (and Sterling and all the DJ's) for being there to help bring God's message and Love to us!

Thank you, what a great patriot Mr. Skelton was! I was taught in school to always be proud of our country and honor our flag. Sadly most school curriculums are quite lax in this subject. Think of all the lives that were sacrificed through the history of our great country, how they gave their very lives to keep us free! Our son served in the Army as an MP  and was sent to Desert Storm at the age of 18 and later served in Irag for 18 months. We are more than proud of our son who risked everything to protect us. We must always be on guard that no one takes down our great country..Pray always for our leaders!

I love the Red Skelton skit. I am however ashamed of some of the other videos. The Hillary videos don't show a lot of Christian love. She needs Jesus, not christians putting videos like these on their website. Some of these, I wouldn't let my children see let alone put them on a "family friendly" website. Showing and talking about the "SEXY" things and the Clinton scandal does not strike me as very loving in any way shape o form. I am sorry to see them on K-Love!!!

I know this is an old video, but he still left out "UNDER GOD"  That surprised me a lot for how ole this video is ,and I hate it when anyone leaves that part out of the pledge.

This is the first time I have heard this.
I challenge everyone to take this to their respective schools in their areas, talk with the school district boards, their staff and their students to remind them what our pledge stands for.
I am!
Happy 4th and God Bless our America!

I really enjoyed listening to Red Skelton's "Pledge of Allegiance". Lately, I have been focusing on all that is happening in our country today.  I believe our rights and freedoms are being stripped away one by one, and "we the people", passively let it happen.  Why is that?  As Re Skelton said, 'freedom is everybody's job.  We live in a republic which  is a state in which sovern power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. Government is the people and it is from the people to the leaders, NOT from the leaders to the people.  At this time however, I see that changing.  Our representatives are pushing their agendas through the House and Senate regardless of the fact that the results of some agendas, will take rights and freedoms away from portions of our people and will cause them to be classafied as criminals if they disagree with with those chosen to represent us all.
Please check into what is happening and let your voices be heard by our leaders!

I am so excited that I turned on the radio to hear Red Skelton. I hadn't heard tha for a long time but watched Red Skelton as I grew up and heard it on his show. He was the best comedian of his time. To you who missed the words under God -Please listen again - he explains that as several people have commented

I grew up watching Red Skelton. What a treasure. I cried all the way to work this morning listening to him. Our whole country needs to listen and take heed of these words. What is happening to our wonderful county? My family and I were remembering how it used to be. I wished my daughter and granddaughters could of grown up in the time I did, when God, the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer meant something. We have strayed so far from what those words truly mean. God created this beautiful world for us all and many have lost their lives to give us the freedoms we have. May God Bless you and May God Bless America!

Beautiful inspiring words from what seems like another time.  Red Skelton and many others of "The Greatest Generation" knew personally what Liberty meant to this country.  Freedom and Liberty are truly available only in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ alone. Our country has went through many changes and his words proved to be prophetic.  America is a Christian nation! Please remember, 2 Chronicles 7:14. "If my people. who are called by my name, will repent and confess their sin, then will I hear from heaven and heal their land".

Thank you KLOVE, Lisa and Eric, for putting this up. I am 44 years old and only know Red Skelton from old reruns and had never heard this. I had to pull my car over to the side of the highway Friday while I cried as I listened to the truth come out of this man's mouth. I am so proud of being an American. I love all it stands for in the original statements made by the Declaration of Independence. I am truly, truly blessed by God to have been born and raised in this the United States of America. I pray our great country learns that she is "ONE NATION UNDER GOD!" May God truly bless us once again.

Have listen to this By many times by Mr. Skelton. It is beautifully said by him.  Every American on this July 4th, should stop & listen to this Pledge& repeat it with him.  Our freedom was paid by many Americans who has trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ & putting God First.

Thank you for this clip. Simply put it is "Beautiful". My father served this country in the Korean War and Vietnam. He saw first hand the horrors of war and was shot down, as he was a pilot. God spared his life so that he could later return home to his family. My father later found Jesus and loves Him to this day. He is 77 yrs now and is an inspiration. My thanks, prayers, and blessings to the men and women who have served and are serving this country and to the families that keep the home fires burning while they are away.

Debbbie McMillen and others; did you not hear Red to say (following his presentation on how it ws taught to him) that since he was a child two (2) states had been added and two word had been added, Under God, to the pledge and wouldn't it be a shame if it were now considered a prayer and taken out of schools? Thank you for listening and being alarmed that there are those who would want to take the words, Under God, back out. PS Vincennes, IN (his hometown) still has the house where he was born and a performing arts center named in his honor at Vincennes Univ, the first and oldets collge in IN.

It sounds like even back then they were trying to take prayer/God out of our schools/society. Not all schools say the pledge anymore! This 4th of July I couldn't help but think that Americanism just isn't what it used to be... or maybe I'm just getting old and cynical.

I grew up watching The Red Skelton Show.  Our whole family looked forward to it each week.  Truly, truly a decent, God-fearing, wonderful man.  I enjoyed everyone's comments, and I especially agree with Terri Pena, Mary Stewart, Stephanie Grady, David Bixler, Roberta Stedham, and Jack Anderson.  Our son is a Gunny Sgt. in the USMC and is currently leading a Recon. team, serving in Afghanistan.  This is his 4th Deployment. Please keep Brian and his team and all our military in your prayers.  Thank you and God Bless all of you and God Bless America!
