They Helped Finish the Song ...

See how the crowd at this minor-league game hockey game in Norfolk, VA, rallied around 8-year-old Elizabeth Hughes singing the National Anthem when her microphone went out ...

This absolutely gave me spingles all over. Its so nice how the crowd took over for her!  I immediately linked it to my fiance who is at work and I can't wait to share it more. Proof that there IS some good left in the word and that one small voice CAN change the world.

(I was driving to my teaching job when I heard this aired, and I didn't want to make a call while driving...)
I agree with the gentleman's comment that this is an area in which patriotism runs deep (I live in Chesapeake, VA; next door neighbor to Norfolk).  I certainly do not want to take away from what happened at the hockey game, but should it be so surprising or out of the ordinary that Americans sing our National Anthem?
I find it interesting that as the nation is grieving over the loss of the girl killed in Tucson, that another girl of close age is bringing out the best in Americans, too.
Yes, there definitely are times when groups of people are by our side to help us through situations and circumstances.  I think in this instance, that Elizabeth is the one by our side as a nation at this particular time.
Thank you, girls, for bringing us closer as a nation.

I was in the 6th grade and we had a talent show.  I was singing and my music stopped.  But I kept on singing and the school started singing with me.  And because of that I won the singing part of the contest.  It was very moving!

I'm a drummer, and the studio I take lessons from has a lot of students, in a range of ages. At one of the recitals last year, a young girl came up very nervously, and announced quietly that she was doing Yellow Submarine. However, being a Beatles song, it was recorded in only mono, and so it broke down halfway through her song,  we couldn't hear it. The girl had almost started crying when we all in the audience simultaneously burst out in song, helping her get through the rest o fit. It was an awesome and moving experience.

Years ago now I worked retail during the Christmas season. It was close to Christmas day and the store I worked for offered gift wrapping.
I had a lady bring a rather large item to be wrapped. Since it was late in the season we were running very low on boxes (especially large ones) but the customer was adamant that we provide a box for her item. She was quite frustrated and asked whether we had boxes or not!
My rescuers: 1)my supervisor who stepped in and handled the customer (without a box) and 2) the many other customers who were patiently waiting for their turn to be waited on who reassured me and told me not to let her get to me no matter how ugly she was being.
Even during a hectic time of year other last minute shoppers found a way to bring peace to a stressful situation. I am still thankful for them!!

I work for the local 911 Emergency Disatch Center and stream Klove all day. When you played the National Anthem song it brought tears to my eyes to realize that our nation is still very patriotic and proud to be American! In my line of work we deal with various personalities as people call in with their emergencies. Hearing that song, and how the crowd stepped up, reminds me that this IS our country and no matter what the next phone call brings we are all united in our love for the USA and for our God. I love you for bringing that to me this morning exactly right when it was needed. Thank you for the reminder. God bless you all!

I gave a testimonial last Easter to 4000 people at our church service.  I am the kind of person that does not speak in front of 4 people, much less 4000, but I was being directed by God to give this talk.  Half way through my testimonial I started to cry and was having a hard time continuing, but the crowd started clapping for me and got me through it.  It was an amazing experience and one I am proud of.  I had quite a few people stop me to thank me for giving my testimony as they also suffered with panic attacks.  The tesitmonial can be found here:
Look under easter 2010 and I am speaking at minute 15:11 for about 2 minutes...

This touched my heart! The kidz leader at my church helped me finish a song in my life. I had stepped away from kids ministry because I felt I needed a break. I had been going through some depression and felt after altar call at church one night that it was time for me to return. Before I liked to do the fun stuff like games but this time the kidz church leader told me I would have to teach, which scared me, not sure why but I said okay as I walked away in fear of the u known. Oh how that helped me through my song. Not only did the kidz church leader help me but those kids without even knowing it helped me through my song and brought back so much joy that I had lost. And God has moved in my life so greatly since I decided to follow His leading and I am thankful for the people he puts in our lives to help finish our song.

I ran track when I was in high school. The mile run was one of my events. The first meet of the year I stood at the start line with my heart pounding and the start gun went off! By the third lap, my legs felt like they were falling off and my lungs were burning! I dropped out of the race that day - no actually I QUIT! I was then encouraged by many people to quit the team. I decided not to quit the team, not that day and not ever. I also, decided not to ever quit another race. Every race after that as I rounded the last curve of the 4th lap my sister would be in the stands, rising to her feet, screaming, "You can do it, don't quit, keep going, just put one foot in front of the other, you can do it"!!!!!!!!! That got me through that track season and many other things since then. She helped me finish my song! Thanks Lynda, I love you.

I want to tell you about my sister Jana and her song. Jana was hit by a train on Valentine's Day in 1983, nearly 28 years ago. She was on her way home from a Bible study in Colorado. Miraculously she survived and is with us still. Although her physical abilities remain challenged, she is one of the most missionally discipled people I know and has been an inspiration to many. She used to be a singer and songwriter, played the guitar and flute, but that was all taken away from her. After a specific sermon series preached by our pastor George Moore this spring, Jana felt God giving her the words to a new song. Our wonderful worship leader, Mike Geiler, put it to music and one Sunday this past September, he sang it while Jana came to the front of the church. If you watch this video, you too will feel the power of someone finishing your song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8-whEHtg8E
"Let your glory shine through me." Jana finished my song by bringing me back into a loving faithful community, where I have since met the man who became my husband. Steve and I together live with and care for Jana, even as she continues to live a new life. Thank you for the opportunity to share her song with you.

I was an Air Force loadmaster on C-130s and was going through survival training.  It was the toughest 4 weeks of my life.  We had to go through POW training the last two weeks and it was so physiologically challenging that on the last day of training I really thought I was never getting out of camp.  Our captors (American Trainers) marched us out of our huts before sunrise began to berate us, I swear, it was the lowest point of my life.  Then the camp commandant told us to turn around and view the thing we were willing to fight for.  There in the morning breeze, the sunlight streaming golden rays down upon it, was our FLAG.  We began to sing the national anthem, but we were so choked up that many of us simply could not utter a word.  tears streaming down our faces, the guards, the men who had been our tormentors for the last two weeks, picked up where we couldn't finish and sang for us.  Even as I write this, my eyes are misting over, and I remember that day like yesterday.  God Bless the USA, God Bless our troops

I just had my song finished. Tried to drive to work this morning and got stuck between two hills. Could not get up one hill, could not back up the other. No where to turn around. I sat there for almost 2 hours. People drove by me, but no one would stop to help. Finally, GOD sent a wonderful young man who not only stopped and got my truck unstuck and turned around for me, but followed me back to the main road just in case I got stuck again. He is my hero. My angel sent from GOD. I pray GOD gives him a special blessing today.

I think it's interesting that the mic went out right after the she sang the word "proof". And the crowd began to sing giving her the help she needed to complete the task she had taken on. I'm wondering if she didn't say a little prayer before getting up to sing in front of all those people and God was showing the little girl that He heard her prayer and the crowd stepping up was her "proof".

I was listening this morning on my way to work and it brought me back to my darkest time in my life.  I was going threw major depression for about a year after my dreams of playing professional hockey was over.  I broke my leg and knee playing junior hockey and I was done.  With that, along with dealing with my mother being in an abusive marriage I grew very angry inside.  I began to drink alot and do drugs as that was the only way to calm what was going on inside of me.  After about a year i grew very addicted to the drugs and alchohol.  I hadnt been to church in almost 6 years and had no contact or relationships with my old friends or pastors in my youth group.  One day I guess one of my old friends from my youth group recognized me somewhere and had told my old youth pastor that I didnt look very good and maybe he should check on me.  Well he did, one night I was so angry about something going on in my life I went to the drugs to take the anger away, I received a call that night from my old youth pastor.  He said that someone had seen me and was very worried about me.  He asked where I was and came and picked me up at around midnight.  I brought me back to his house and stayed up all night with me praying for me and talking to me about the angers and issues I had inside me.  Over the next month my old youth pastor and old friends from my youth group kept me occupied with their love and company.  They helped me break my addiction and come to know my true LORD again.  Sense then I havent touched another drug and very seldom drink alchohol.  I was baptised when I was 21 and married my wife soon after.  We now have 2 kids and a life I would have never imagined back when I was battling the demons and struggles of my life.  People that I hadnt talked to or seen in over 5 years came to my rescue and saved my life.  Who knows what have happened or where I would have been if they didnt.

I live in Norfolk area and I am so proud to say that today!  That video brought tears to my eyes! It doesn't really surprise me,though, because as another poster mentioned, this area is home to a large military population and there are just good people here. I was surprised and touched by the comment from Deborah in Tucson. We serve an awesome God and I am so grateful that He can cause a little girl across the country to bring comfort to those hurting in Tuscon.  My prayers are with all of those feeling the effects of that terrible tragedy. By the way, this morning Elizabeth's mom said she has been invited back to try again.

I was on my way to an appointment this morning; I had a 1 1/2 hour drive and listened to K-LOVE all the way.  From your initial intro, somehow I thought someone was going to be mean to her or boo her.  When you played Elizabeth's clip, I just fell apart. You eventually mentioned it and played the clip four times during my drive.  I cried EVERY time!  You guys were killing me, and I was exhausted by the time I got to my appointment! lol  What a special way to begin my day.  Thanks!
