What a disturbing commentary on our society. My heart broke wide open when the caller said she became a teenaged mom, just so she would have someone who loved her unconditionally.

We have become a replacement society. If you don't like something about yourself...replace it with a more socially acceptable design.

How do we combat this?

One of the teens the goes to our local church is working to combat this problem and has started a non profit site to show girls that they are beautiful. Check out http://dykyb.com/, (Don't you know your beautiful.)

We also need to remember that when God comes to live in our hearts, our bodies are the temple of God.  We need to take care of God's temple. Yes, in many cases young kids are mislead to think they need to be Hollywood thin in order to be accepted. There is also another side of the story. We now know that many diseases are tied to being over weight and with that knowledge we are knowingly abusing God's temple when we are over weight or obese. Please make sure to differentiate when speaking about one's body and how it looks, verses having a healthy temple for God to dwell!

I was also discouraged when I read this and had the same question as David: "How do we combat this?" It was after reading all these comments that Johnny Diaz' song came on titled "More Beautiful You".  It gave me more peace to know that millions of young ladies will hear this song and be encouraged.  Hopefully they will believe the lyrics and internalize it.
