Riding Bikes To School

Are riding bikes to school a thing of the past?

My son rode his bike to school the other day, but there are no bike racks. He has to find out from security where he can lock it up.  Makes me wonder if kids ride bikes to school any more.

Kids in our area (Indy) are discouraged from riding bikes or even walking to school.  When my son had freshman orientation a couple years ago, he was told he would have to take the bus to school even though the school is literally out our back door.  It may have something to do with the huge lack of sidewalks in the area- which is a huge safety issue especially when the kids are walking to school in the dark during the winter.  However, our son walks to school- through the back yard and across a parking lot.  Good for your son for wanting to be healthy!

Many of our elementary students ride their bikes to school - we DO have bike racks Smile    The last month of school is senior month and one of those days is "ride your bike to school day", many of them have been in our district since kindergarden.   This past year about 30 of them road their bikes to school that day and they were so funny riding down the road all together!

When I was a kid I road my bike to school. The schools in my local area still have bike racks for those who ride to school.
