Superman, Not So Super Any More

Superman-Wonder Woman romance rocks DC Comics. TODAY

I am disappointed, super heros are supposed to be moral and this is not. 

Superman has a new girlfriend, and she’s no mere mortal.

In a radical reboot of its venerable Superman narrative, DC Comics has scrapped the Man of Steel’s marriage to Lois Lane and given him a new love interest. And it’s a fellow superhero in her own right: Wonder Woman.

The new relationship between the comics icons is dramatized on the cover of Justice League #12, which goes on sale Aug. 29. The two superhumans are locked in a passionate embrace on the verge of a kiss, as rendered by renowned DC Comics artist (and co-publisher) Jim Lee.

Black Licorice Recalled

Black licorice recalled due to high lead levels. USA TODAY

 

Officials are warning consumers against eating black licorice candy produced by a California company because it contains high levels of lead.

The California Department of Public Health issued the warning Wednesday against 16-ounce bags of Red Vines Black Licorice Twists with the label "Best Before 020413."

The manufacturer, American Licorice Co. of Union City, has issued a voluntary recall for the tainted batch.

Health officials say the licorice was distributed inside and outside of California. They're working with the company to determine where it was shipped.

Stay Healthy by Telling the Truth

Study finds that avoiding lies can improve your health. USA TODAY

 

Honesty may boost your health, suggests a study that found telling fewer lies benefits people physically and mentally.

Each week for 10 weeks, 110 individuals, ages 18-71, took a lie detector test and completed health and relationship measures assessing the number of major and minor lies they told that week, says lead author Anita Kelly, a psychology professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She presented findings at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association, which ended Sunday.

"When they went up in their lies, their health went down," says Kelly. "When their lies went down, their health improved."
