Christine's fat-burning breakfast ideas and peach parfait recipe

3 Fat Burning Foods for Breakfast

1) Greek yogurt-

A recent study from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville found that people on a low-calorie diet that included yogurt lost 61 percent more fat overall and 81 percent more belly fat than those on a similar plan but without yogurt.

2) Nuts and Seeds-

A study at Georgia Southern University found that eating monounsaturated fats found in nuts and seeds increases calorie burn for up to 3 and a half hours!

3) Fresh Fruit-

Eating a properly balanced breakfast that includes protein and low glycemic carbohydrates (unrefined, unprocessed) such as fresh fruit three hours prior to exercise may help burn more fat suggests a study from the Journal of Nutrition.

Try Christine’s Raspberry Peach parfait.  It’s made with Greek yogurt, pumpkin seeds, fresh peaches and raspberries.

341 calories, 24 grams protein, 48 grams carbs, 9 grams fat

What Could Be

On Saturday, I stood by the side of the road watching marching bands from local high schools struggle past me, decked out in polyester pants and sporting large plumage on their heads. My son's band was no different. In fact, I would post a photo, but he said "No way!" Those are some seriously ugly outfits!

However, upon seeing this video, my son decided that, although the marching band outfits are embarrassing, it could be worse!

Those poor kids! Perhaps they can find hope in seeing what IS possible! Check THIS out:

Inspired to Make a Difference!

You frequently hear us talk about the importance of doing something kind for someone else, doing something that makes a difference. I think that while most of us want to help others, we are often immobilized by insecurities. There are so many needs…what can I possibly do to help? I'm just one person.

Trevor Sims didn't let that stop him. Trevor was just 11 years old. He was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 5.  His dying wish was to make a difference. He wanted to feed the hungry. When he was first diagnosed, his Mom had to take care of him full-time, so they had very little money. He knew what it was to be hungry. He didn't want anyone else to feel that way. So, a city-wide campaign in Trevor's name was organized in his hometown of Baton Rouge, LA. In just one week, through donations of food and money to the Baton Rouge Food Bank, he was able to provide 200,000 meals!

Trevor felt that it was important to make a difference by doing little things for people. He said,  "You can make a difference everyday just by helping someone who is getting bullied or helping someone cross the street."

Trevor lost his battle with cancer, but his mother hopes that the food drive will continue annually in Trevor's name. That is one boy who knew how to make a difference! May we learn from him today. You can read the full story HERE.

Rhett Walker the Weatherman

You just never know what you're gonna happen upon when you're cruising social media. One of the people I follow, Matt Maher, tweeted this video clip that kinda caught my attention because, inexplicably it was artist, Rhett Walker doing the weather for a local morning news show. You have to check the video out! You can watch it HERE. And of course, we had to talk to Rhett and get the full scoop from him as well...
