How can you eat healthier on a tight budget? I have tired tufu and I don't like it. I find trying to buy fruits and vegetables can be very costly.

Thanks for your 'New You in 52 plan"  I am actually hoping to be a "happier with me in 23!
I have already lost 50 lbs., and am so happy for this, but it continues to be a moment by moment struggle.  Thanks for being another motivation for me, and all of your listeners!
I also want to thank you for letting God use you and your music to help save my sister's life.  You played Matt Redman's "Never Let Go" at just the right time! Those words helped my sister decide not to take her life, but to turn to Jesus, His Love, and His promise that, despite troubles, He will never let go!!!!
I thank God for you!

I need to get healthier. I tend to eat fairly decent, but not as healthy as I could. I also rarely have time to work out. I play soccer, so when that starts in February, I get lots of exercise every night. However, when I am in the off season, I don't work out at all. I just can't seem to find the time. I always feel so busy. Any suggestions?

At my peak I weighed 320 lbs.  In 2008 I managed to get down to 240 in order to have a hip replacement.  I have since put back on 40 lbs.  I have been told that the new hip should last 15 years, but if I do not get the weight back off it will be closer to 5 years.  I am striving to eat healthier and get more exercise.  So far this year I have lost almost 4 pounds.  My short term goal is 10 lbs by Feb 18th, long term is 50 lbs this year, overall is 135 lbs.

I started my journey to better health on January 1.  My first weigh in was today.  I lost 4 lbs!  Thank you Jesus for being there when I was tempted to cut my daily exercise short or eat something I know I shouldn't.  There is no greater motivator or personal trainer. My motivational scriptures are Philippian 4:1 and  Galations 6:9.  Onward to week 2.  Look out Guadalupe Peak!  Here I come!

For Laurie, Katie and Bernadette:  If fresh vegetables are too costly, check out the frozen food section.  They are much healthier for you that canned veggies and you can measure out your portion and put the rest back in the freezer.  Also, if you buy fresh, cook all that you buy and freeze the rest in separate portions.  As for fruits I only buy as much as I will eat in 1 week.  You can also drink juices.  It reduces the amount you can have, but I will drink 8 oz of juice as a snack with some yogurt.  By drinking and eating slowly you can enjoy it more. Motivation, especially sustained motivation is extremely difficult for the flesh.  I am living proof.  I can't even count the times I've committed to something and within a few weeks, I've let it fall by the wayside.  But if you get Jesus involved He will be there for you and encourage and motivate you all day every day.  Look up Philippians 4:13 and Galation 6:9.  The first tells us that we can do all things with Christ.  The 2nd tells us that if we stay strong and persevere that we will reap a reward (harvest).  These, along with a desire to do all I can to be here and be an active part of my kids sports are my motivation.  Sit down and look at your situation and pray and ask Jesus to be your personal trainer and motivator.  You will be amazed at what He does and who He brings into your life to help.  God bless and keep moving forward!

I love this idea (and the "happier with me in 23" too Kathie!).  Will the tips and suggestions be posted and built upon somewhere where we can go back and read them?  Or the guest interviews on an iTunes or YouTube link so we can listen if we miss them?

I lost 39 lbs. 3 years ago using the Jenny Craig plan and still had another 20 to go.  Instead, I gained it all back plus an additional 15-20. I have back and shoulder pain so I haven't been motivated to get up and move.  I hope there are things I can do to see positive results this year. "Starting again in 2010".

Hi everyone-

I just wanted to encourage everyone who is joining this weight-loss mission, and to offer you my support and prayers. As Christians, I think that we have all come to accept that we are not perfect beings; however, when we set out to achieve weight-loss (or other daunting goals), I think we often expect or hope for perfection from ourselves. I work full-time in the health and fitness industry, and I think that the most helpful advice I can offer would be to make changes, be confident in knowing that God is on your side, but to acknowledge that we are all imperfect beings, and we will struggle. Set small, achievable goals first- you may have a weight-loss goal of 50lbs.,but maybe your first week you strive to exercise for 30 minutes, 4 times per week, and eat fruits and vegetables at every meal. Set smaller weight loss goals along the way- maybe one pound per week, so that you can measure your progress and feel accomplishment at each step. The American College of Sports Medicine advises weight loss of 1-2 lbs. per week as a healthy rate of weight loss. More than this (unless very severely obese) and you compromise your health. Most importantly, acknowledge that if you miss a workout, or eat that extra dessert one night, you have made one mistake. Spend time reflecting on your accomplishments, and forgive your mistakes so that your realize one mistake does not constitute failure.

I am 50 years old and need to jump start my weight lose with something. This sounds like fun-- I sit at a desk all day long and help people with their problems but seem to not have enough time to workout. I love the idea of the calendar to schedule the time every day to push yourself to make time for physical activity. I have three sons that I need to be strong for, and active as I continue my walk with them. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers as I start pushing myself to exercise every day so I can be a new me in 52!  Hey Tony, can a 50 year old do the P-90X? If you say no. Then I will take that as a challenge to prove you wrong. Peace out Randall

I've enjoyed hearing the stories in regards to this program. I don't need to lose weight but want to be healthier in my eating (I'm a very picky eater) and exercise. Just before New Year's, my mom suffered a minor heart attack. There were several things that contributed to the condition. Since she's gotten out of the hospital, she's determined to eat healthy. She went through her cupboards and pantry and took out everything that is not healthy for her to eat. I'm so proud of her. She also quit smoking the day of the heart attack and hasn't smoked since. God is so good!!! My goal is to be healthy so that I don't have health issues down the road.

Weight problems have plagued many generations in my family and I have fallen into the same mold.  I gained a lot of weight over the last 3 years while finishing college and teacher credential program.  I really want to become more healthy for my own four children, the children I will be teaching and for myself.  Thank you for this opportunity to be encouraged with correcting my health!

Well, here I go.  I have about 80 pounds to lose and this time I am determined - determined to let God lead me and to lean on Him insteaed of trying to do it alone.
My family has diabetes and heart disease and I want to avoid those and stick around to see my four (almost 5) grandkids grow up.
Here is my weigh in for the week:  I started at 243 on Monday and today (Friday) i am at 242.  It may not seem like much but I have been stuck for almost a year now, so this is really good.
God lead us all into healthier lifestyles.

I have been struggling with my wait for quite a few years now.  I am eating healthier foods such as organic and as natural as I can.  My problem is not getting enough (if any) exercise.  I work fulltime and attend classes fulltime which leaves very little time for anything else. I need help!  I am looking forward to "new you in 52".  I would like to lose A total of 60 lbs total.  Thank you for the opportunity to take this journey with all of you.

I need to loose about 30 pounds. My husband just had quadruple bypass and then had stints put in the arteries to his legs. I want to loose to encourage him. We both need to eat healthier. It is hard to find low sodium good tasting recipes that don't take forever to prepare. I need some help on that. We are eating more vegetables and fruit and fish. Any ideas?

I travel all the time for my job.  I had lost weight two years ago with Weight Watchers but gained it back when I started to travel.  Having to eat out all the time and making unwise choices on where to eat.  (I was like a kid in a candy store).  I am 51 and know that this is the time that I absolutely have to do this.  I have lost 9 pounds since New Years Day but have a long way to go.  Any tips and tricks on eating out would be helpful and your prayers would be wonderful too!

I quit smoking 10 years ago. One brother and my mother quit smoking within the last year. Now my baby brother has quit smoking and wants to reward himself by getting healthy and fit. So I am going to try to get the P90x program for him. I am so proud of my family. Now if we could just get my older brother, oldest daughter and 2 nieces to quit then our entire immediate family will be smoke free. Send up a prayer for us....

In the last few months, I've done a VERY controversial thing...Fasting for weight loss. After I did P90X I was stuck at a certain weight and didn't budge. After doing research and need to fast for spiritual guidance I found a way to really clean out my body and spirit of the bad things. Fasting is a wonderful way to get nearer to God. When he said, "When you fast" not if you fast; I believe he gave us a healthy way to do it. The human body is amazing! I"M NOT A DOCTOR. But for me Fasting got me jump started on getting healthier physically and Spiritually. I have been intermittently fasting for weight loss for now 3 months. I've lost 14 pounds. My goal is still 13 pounds a way. But with healthy eating and exercise I'll get there! God bless!

I weigh 220 pounds now. I put on 55 pounds with my pregnancy, and have not been able to loose it. My husband and I have decided to have another baby now that our son is 4 years old. I have not been able to get pregnant for the last year. Since I am so over weight it is complicating getting pregnant. I bought Tony Horton's P90X and have recently started my workouts. My goal is to get back down into my ideal weight of 150 pounds. My goal for 2010 is to loose 70 pounds so I can have a healthy pregnancy.

Congratulations to the 52'ers! Keep up the hard work. Since Nov 2009, I've been on the road to a new me. I used Tony's Power 90 workout series and I'm finishing RevAbs (Brett Hobel - another Beachbody.com trainer). My energy level is higher and I can better manage negative stress! Plus, I've lost 3 inches around my waist and dropped a dress size. Come November when I've been at this change in exercise for a year, I'll add the food plan changes. I believe that I will actually stick with it b/c I'm making small changes that grow into big changes. Love you, Tony. You helped make my 40's a beautiful time!

My husband Ralph and I started P90x in January. We managed about 8 wks before my work schedule made working out together almost impossible. We still BRING IT, just not together. Ralph lost weight and inches almost before the end of the first workout. It took me a little longer to see results. But, boy, was it worth it.

Thank you, Tony, for coming up with a high intensity, calorie blasting workout guys and girls of any age can do. I'm about Tony's age and Ralph is 56. If we can do it, anyone can. Tony suggests you modify the workout to fit your needs and abilities.

My Mom, Dad, and Little Sister are severely overwieght. My little sister gets picked on so much about her wieght she doesnt want to go to school sometimes. My mom is the same hieght as my sisster and wieghts 100 puonds more. She cant get out much because she's sick all the time. My dad works all day driving a bus and is tired when he gets home. None of us get the exercise we should and alot of nights we are out all day for doctors appointments and eat out at Mcdonalds. I try to make healthy choices but its hard when we are eating really late or unhealthy food. I think the P90 X, would be good for our whole family but we just dont have the money, cause my dad is the only one working...
