What toy or item have you kept from childhood?

We have both seen Toy Story 3 recently and sobbed shamelessly! So many sweet moments! Got us thinking...what toy or item have you kept from childhood? Why?

Here's Kelli's "Barbie horse" that she's held onto for over 30 years!

My dads teddy bear, doggie, fat cat and numerous other stuffed animals. I don't know why since they're packed up in a box but I just cant throw them out. I also have a sling shot my dad made me out of an old piece of boot while we were reading about David and Goliath. With my skills I would not have been able to slay anything but I had fun practicing!

I have two items. the first is my original rocking horse that I actually restored and it sets in the guest room of my home. I also have the original teddy bear that was bought for me by my dad when I a baby. I actually have pictures of me in my crib with the teddy bear. The bear means a lot to me as I lost my father when I was seven years old.

For me, it's my Minnie Mouse that my daddy got for me in Disney World for my 9th Birthday in 1979.  My dad passed away just a few weeks after that trip.  This July will be 31 years.  I have revisited Disney world for my 30th and (just this year) my 40th birthdays.  Minnie is in good condition with the exception of her dress which is totally disentegrated with age. But I LOVE her.

I have to be honest, when I step into the Magic Kingdom, tears come to my eyes because I remember how much my daddy LOVED it there. He was the most amazing BIG kid I have ever known. My husband thought I was crazy when, there I was....a 40 yr old woman with tears in her eyes just looking down Main Street USA!!

My toy from child is Pearl. A rag doll that my mom made for me when I was 1 1/2 years old. The doll was named Pearl because she had a mother of pearl nose that has been completely worn off. She has hair that was yarn that my mom spun and dyed herself. She is alive. She is the real Velveteen Rabbit. When I walk past her sometimes she seems like an alive baby out of the corner of my eye. She has always been with me. I have always had her with me. I love Pearl! I am 40 years old and I love and appreciate that my mother gave me something that is love.

I still have my very first Barbie dated 1964. I took her with me and my Chatty Cathy to the hospital when I had my tonsils out.  The Chatty Cathy didn't make it through all of our moves as I was growing up though.  The Chatty Cathy had teeth and I pulled them thinking the tooth fairy would come if I put them under my pillow.  Nope, can't cheat the tooth fairy...Smile

I didn't keep very much in the way of toys. But after several moves, I had found an old lamp made from a mason jar. In the jar I had kept my favorite Micro Machines in. One of the toys was a small Coast Guard Cutter, I remember absolutely loving and playing with it in the sink and tub. The funny thing is I found this toy after finishing up my tour of duty in the US Coast Guard.

I have a small crazy quilt blanket that I played dolls with that was my mothers when she was a child.  I even wrote my first boyfriends name on it when I was 16 in blue ink.  I still have it to this day, although my mom is now gone (she passd away at the age of 42), it reminds me of her, because it always belonged to her anyways.  I love it and cherish it to this very day.

I'm almost 40 and still have my favorite babydoll. I named her Sissy when I was really little. She has a soft body but her head, arms and legs are all made of a harder material. When you laid her down her big, blue eyes would (and still do) close. She was a very well loved doll! Every other year or so I will go to a rummage sale and buy her a preemie outfit, even though she's just a beloved decoration these days.

There are two things that I keep, one is not a toy but the two things go together.  When I was 6 months old, my mom gave me a blanket she used to have.  To this day I still use it, and I have always called it my fuzzy blanket.  It is full of holes, has spilled nail polish from sleepovers, and is missing one of the edges but I just love it.  The other is an old panda bear that used to be my dads.  He sucked all the black off of its nose and chewed off one of the eyes when he was little, but it is still in one pice.  These things make me feel like my parents are always there comforting me no matter how far away they may be!

I have a dolphin that my Aunt Sylvia made for me. She was my Mom's sister.  I received this dolphin for Christmas the year I turned 9.  My Aunt died when I was 10 in 1978.  It will be 32 years since then on July 5th.  Very sad, but I still have...yes "his" name is Flipper.  I look at him fondly.  Another toy I have is a dog, about 3.5 feet long and worn.  "His" name is snoopy.  My Mom's oldest brother, My Uncle Walt gave it to me for my first Christmas when I was 4.5 months old.  I will always treasure these two stuffed toys.  As I have always cherished my family. =)

My oldest daughter still has the Barbie clothes that I made for my barbie when I was old enough to sew.  I kept 2 dresses for my Barbie dated 1964 that are originals.  She has the blonde bubble hairdo, painted on eyelashes and light pink lipstick!  My daughters would play with her and called her "Bammy" after my mother because my mom wore her hair kind of like that.  I played with Barbie until I was in high school and then it was boys that interested me.  When my girls got older I decided to put the one Barbie away.  They still had all of their own and my Skipper.  Hmmmm, maybe I should get the Skipper too?  Anyway I loved playing Barbies for so long.  Don't know how many of you remember "Francie" with the real eyelashes and cool 60's clothes (vinyl coat, scarf, boots, mini skirts...groovy).  I had her but she didn't make it either.  I also have 2 baby dolls that survived my youth...twins, one with a frown named "Fran" and the other with a smile named "Jan".  I have let my children and grandchildren play with them but now have them sitting in a basket with porcelain dolls I inherited from my mother.  A whole room full of dolls.  Thank you for the memories!  God bless you, Tess

This isn't about my toy so much as it is about our daughter's toy that she has had since she was born.
What she has is a Monkey PJ Holder/ Blankie, it used to be a PJ bag with a monkey head, but a friend in our church sewed it up so out newborn would not get stuck inside, hurt, etc.
Well, since she was born, she slept with this Monkey, and it became even more important after our daughter was diagnosed with cancer at 11 months old.
All throughout her stay in Doernbecher Children's Hospital, that Monkey became more and more a close friend and less and less a toy. Now our daughter, 3 years old and praise God cancer free, cannot hardly sleep without it.
My wife and I have thought about trying to phase him out, but we cannot bear the thought of our girl losing her longest friend that was with her through her toughest time in her short life. Plus, we can't find another one to save our lives, so he better not go anywhere!

I have a story about a brown bear that I had when I was about 5 years old.  At that time, my left eye was lazy.  So the eye doctor said that I needed to wear a eye patch on my right eye in order to strengthen my left eye.  Somehow my bear lost its left eye. In my 5 years old mind, I placed one of my patches in place of the lost eye. So when I looked at it, it seemed like I was looking in a mirror. The bear is still my care but is stored in the attic.

I never had a toy that I kept attached to...for me it was a blanket. I was a thumb sucker and had a baby blanket that I would never let go of. My parents had to pry it out of my hands at night while I was asleep just to wash it. I even remember going to elementary school with it in my backpack. I took it with me wherever I went. We moved soon afterward & my Mom couldn't bare to look at anything that reminded her of my sister. So all the toys she had played with, including mine, were boxed up.I got to keep the stuffed dog though. While I soon got tons of new toys, none of them were as special as that stuffed dog. I kept a"My Friend Mandy" doll, and gave it to my daughterabout 2 years ago.  I kept the doll and all of her clothes for years! Serena loved it, but unfortunately so did our dog Daisy.  She ate four of the fingers off of one hand.  Serena didn't care though she still plays with her! Smile
