Actually I just got my first car yesterday. It's an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S. It's an older car, but it's pretty nice. Has a 3.3 Liter 6 Cylinder engine, so it accelerates very nicely. Better than the newer cars I've driven. (2010 Camry and Corola.)

I got my first car when I was 16.  It was a light blue 1964 Volkswagen Station Wagon.  I absolutely loved it!  The speakers rolled around on the floor and two dollars of gas lasted a week.  I'd take my great grandmother to the grocery store and she'd have me wait until the pill for her nerves kicked in!!!

My first car was a 1971 Ford Galaxy 500.  White with maroon interior.  My oldest brother was finishing college and gave it to my next brother and me in high school.  He serviced bathroom air fresheners and it smelled like those chemicals from them being spilled in the trunk.  Everyone got in saying, "what is that sickening sweet smell?!!!!"  You could get about 10 people in it.  Great riding the strip on Friday and Saturday nights with all your friends in the same car.  We had a blast!!!

I'm like Scott: my first car was a 1966 Mustang. A friend's sister had a cherry red '65 that I fell in love with. When my dad asked me what I wanted, I told him I wanted a '65 fire engine red Mustang. Never in a million years did I expect to get the car. One Easter Sunday, my dad suggested a ride around town and we pulled up to this stranger's house. In the drive there sat a white, Bondo-covered Mustang. Didn't really think anything about it until my dad said, "Here's your Easter present." Talk about jaw-dropping beautiful and unexpected!

It's been many years since I've driven the car - my dad has it since I live so far away and has been fixing it up..... for my son to have as his first car!

1st car - a 1974 Ford "Maverick" (not even close to a Mustang!). It was small no a/c, only AM radio but it was a sturdy tank which is what I needed at the time.  The "awesome" car at the time was the TransAm but only a very few got that car at 16 so two other friends and I that had Mavericks started a car club called the "TransMaverick" and just enjoyed driving the wheels we had.

My first car was a 1959 Volkswagon bus.  They didn't have gas gauges so I would right down my miles and figure how far I could go before needing gas.  If you ran out of gas there was a lever under the seat that you pulled out and it gave you one more gallon of gas to get to where you could get more.  (It was actually made that way!)  Gas at that time was 22 cents a gallon!

My first car when I was still 15. I was able to work on it before I turned 16. It was a 1972 Chevy Nova hatchback. For my birthday my parents had it painted metal flake burgendy and put the vinyl top back on it. On the day of my birthday  I had to work, not knowing my dad had picked up the car and drove by and honked so I could see it. To Kelli & Scott at K-LOVE my favorite station - don't know what I'd do without you guys.
My first car was a 1968 Plymouth VIP.  It was absolutely huge and like cars of the day, made of steel.  A tank on the road - pretty much indestructible, even when my sister backed it into the church wall, demolishing the wall and barely scratching the rear bumper!  I loved that car and have been partial to big cars ever since.  When sent to the great junkyard in the sky had over 200,000 miles on it.  Thanks for all the great music, great stories, positive prayer and support.  A day without K-LOVE is a BAD day!

My first car was an orange 1972 Subaru Coup.  It had 150,000 miles and had been rolled over by my brother in the winter.  Living in Minnesota the winters had eaten away the metal on the hood so my Dad pop-riveted some sheet metal to the hood to keep water on the road from splashing on the windshield.  It looked terrible but it always started.  Remember those Minnesota winters Scott!

My first car wasn't a big deal but I dated a guy here in Hawaii with a beat-up VW Golf as his first car. We hadn't been dating long when I spilled an entire plate of rice, scrambled eggs, and spam between our seats while he was driving. And yes, later there were roaches in the car, probably finding stray grains of rice. However, this guy handled it all so gracefully and kindly...truly a Christ-like spirit...and I knew he was one of a kind and that I should marry him. I did, and almost 7 years later we are expecting our 3rd baby and driving a Ford Explorer because it has lots of room for strollers.

My first car was a 1981 Chevette that my brother and sister had driven before me.  By the time it got to me the horn stopped working and on rare occasion when it did work it sounded like a dead duck, the sun roof leaked, the driver's door wouldn't unlock so I had to Dukes of Hazard it thru the window or climb in the passanger side, and you could start it without the key.  Last but not least the muffler fell off and you could hear me coming a mile away.  What a car!!!  Believe it or not someone wanted to by it off of me.

77 Mustang (the era when they were butt ugly and ran like crap). I hated that brown car but it got me around where I needed to go. It was a hand-me-down from my mom.

As for the Toyota Corolla being on the best to get list...I'm not so sure about that. I just got one last year (a 2006) and it has anti-lock brakes and last winter I almost skidded into someone or something 3 times. They are so touchy you either have to crawl around in snow & start stopping a mile ahead of time, lol. I wouldn't trust a teen driving a car with anti lock brakes. Maybe I just need new tires (even though I have $35,000 miles on the car), or a new driver. Smile

Hi Scott and Kelli
I enjoy your show on the radio and I love when you share stories of others in need or hearing the happiness we hear of others helping people in need. I was told by a Sister that every rose has a thorn and that seems to be a part of our journey.
I would love to share a story with you about a man I met that has a beautiful gift. I met him late at night and he spoke so elequently and I asked him what he did and he told me he was an English High School Teacher and he lost his wife and he turned to drinking and drugs. I offered him a cup of soup and he told me he had no hot water, so I ran to my car to get my thermos and there was just enough hot water for him. I met him on a Monday night and he told me he missed fresh fruit, and that night I went home to find fresh strawberries on the kitchen counter and I knew that gift was for my new friend Michael. On Tuesday night I talked to him again, and on Wednesday he wasn't there but I spoke to a lady named Sharon and I asked her what she needed and she told me she needed to learn how to spell and I asked her age and she told me was 27 and I asked why she never learned how to spell and she told me that she went from foster care to foster care and not one took the time to teach her how to spell, as she was talking to me, who walks by???? Yes Michael the English teacher, and I said "hey Michael I want you to meet Sharon and Sharon I want you meet Michael" as I was getting in my car Michael pulled out a notebook and he was teaching Sharon how to spell...That was God's divine intervention and what a beautiful gift Michael gave, he had nothing but his gift of teaching was so beautiful to see and Sharon received hope for one night that someone would take the time to teach her how to spell : ) God bless you both!
Thank you God for teaching me just helping and giving love and caring and smiling and laughing is a beautiful gift we can share with our friends to!

I have to tell you about my sister's 1st car - in the '70's, she had a 1959 Simca (a little French car) she bought it for $50 (!) our brother worked on the engine for her and got it running really good, and our mom covered the seats and dashboard with that fake fur stuff (you got a good picture of this car now?)  It was pretty flimsy, bc every time you turned the corner, all 4 doors would fly open - we had Jesus stickers all over it, and she finally sold the car (again for $50) and the guy she sold it to took the Jesus stickers off and the car engine blew up the next day !!! I was just listening to you guys on the klove app and wanted to give you a shout out about the first car conversation...

The 8 Track didn't last long as it was soon replaced with a Pioneer cassette deck with auto reverse : o )

My first car was a land shark...a '68 Delta 88 that I bought for $200.00.

I lived in Boulder CO at the time and was going to Denver to see a friend of mine for my first road trip...when this red Porsche passed me, and then slowed to take a second look (I was younger and not so bad looking...then - but the the car was a beast so I'm not sure what he was looking at).

Anyway, next thing I know we’re racing down the highway and my beat up Delta 88 was actually holding its!  I saw my exit coming up so I pulled in front of him and took the exit (at speeds I shouldn't admit here).

Next thing I see are these flashing lights trying to determine which car to follow - thankfully, at the last minute the police care chose the Porsche.

I laughed and thanked Christ for watching out for me in my stupidity as I slowed on the off ramp.  It could have ended with a cross or two on the road, and an innocent police officer having to pick up the pieces.   As it was, it ended in a ticket - and our loving Lord saving me from myself during that first joy ride.

My first car was a 67 Olds Delmont 88 with a hi-performance 330 Bought it from the original owner in 81. and it had a bad cylinder as we were told.  But that old lead sled would pass every thing on the road, BUT a gas station. It was BIG and green.

My first car was a mail jeep.  I loved driving that vehicle.  It had sliding doors, so I could drive it with my shoes off and the doors open.  Freeeeeedomm!
What is funny, though, is that when I went to get some auto insurance for it, I told the insurance agent it was a mail jeep, she look at me funny, she was thinking male jeep.  I repeated myself, then it dawned on me that she thought I was trying to give my vehicle a gender.  Well, it was blue.  LOL.
