Scott and Kelli Poll: Do you wear a watch? Yes or no?

According to a recent survey, students entering college this fall don't like to use e-mail (it's too slow!), don't often write in cursive (many claim they don't know how!) and rarely wear a watch! How our society has changed in the past 20 years! So, the Scott and Kelli poll question today: are watches obsolete? Do you wear a watch? Yes or no?

I always wear a watch.  It saves me the hassle of having to find my phone.  Plus, when you are is a classroom, or other group setting, I feel like it is rude to pull out my phone.

I would go crazy without my watch.  Whether it is at work, shopping or anywhere.  I have a phone, but it is to pull it out whenever I want to know what time it is.  Plus I can read my watch in a theater without disturbing anyone with the backlight coming on.

I'd have to say no...

I used to wear watches when I was little, but since having a cell phone I haven't worn one.  But ironically I had been talking to my husband about this beautiful I had when I was little, and recently found the same model online.  I may just have to dig it out and start wearing it again, because it's so pretty Smile

I always wear a watch. I feel lost when I leave the house and I don't put it on. I am with Scott on that one. It is so much easier to look at your wrist then to dig in your pocket to get your cell phone.

Yes, I wear a watch. Not always but when I know I will need to know what time it is I do. I agree with Scott that having to rely on your cell phone for the time is a major inconvenience. Especially when I try to distance myself from the temptations of my phone. The less I can look at it the better.

Watch?  Yes!  I absolutely cannot leave the house without my watch.  I'm only 24.  And even though I carry a cell phone I don't rely on it for anything more than my phone calls and the occasional text message.  But I definitely understand that the new 2014-ers would not wear watches as readily because they are attached to their cell phones and would probably find no need for one.  But also, as a soon to be nursing student.  I think the watch is a must-have!

YES FOR WATCHES!! I forget that my cell phone has a clock on it.  I have actually used my ipod time once or twice if I didn't have my watch on, but I HAVE to have my watch.  It's more of a date dependency for me though.  I don't know what the date is unless I look at my watch.  I try wearing my watch without the date but I just go blank without it!!!!
8/10/2010 6:08:55 PM

I don't think watches are obsolete, but I don't wear one.  I do have a purse where things can get lost, but I also have a pouch that I keep my cell phone in and that is much more convenience for me.  Besides, having a watch on my wrist is uncomfortable.

Always wear a watch!  =)

In fact, the other day I was running errands & the battery quit working on my watch.  I was beginning to freak out because I had several appointments & needed to get there on time.  My 12 year old son (who doesn't have a cell) had to remind me that I could look at my phone.  I appreciated the idea, but it sure seemed like an inconvenience!

no watch - why do we need to know what's going on every minute of the day?! I haven't worn a watch for almost 10 years. And I don't look at my cell phone all the time. Hello Scott and Kelly.
I used to be just like Scott. I never took my watch off unless it was not water proof and I was going to be dealing with water. Anyway, slowly but surely I got used to being without it and I don't even think about it anymore. I do keep my cell phone in a pocket in my purse so that I can get to it quickly.

I haven't worn a watch for awhile...however still might be a good idea. Both my husband and I forgot our cell phones at home, stopped in Starbucks--no clocks anywhere!--needed to be at an event at a specific time, asked a gentleman at the table next to us, he said he left his cell phone in the car, but could start his laptop up for us to tell us the time! Sometimes old school watches can come in very handy!

I'm with Scott on this one. I'm a traveling piano teacher, and I can't be without my watch. To be honest, depending on the student, I look at my watch anywhere from 2 to 10 times every half hour. A few weeks ago my watch broke and I had to keep pulling my cell phone out to see what time it was.

Yes!  I'm 21 and even though my cell phone is always with me there are times when it is inappropriate to use it and a watch is helpful.

ALWAYS wear a watch.  I am like Regina too, but newer watches work fine on me.  As Scott says, easier to read and feel naked without it.  By the way, check and see if male/female wear them as well.  Most women don't, most men do.

I still wear a watch.  I'm 29 and almost always have my cell phone on me... but not wearing my watch is like not wearing my wedding ring.  It just feels  weird. I do still use it too.

Wear a watch.  If I don't have one on I like you Scott feel absolutely naked.  By the way my 20 and 17 year old sons also wear a watch and my 52 year old husband.

Yes, I also wear a watch.  I rarely look at my cell phone because it usually OFF!  I refuse to be tied to my phone--there are very things in my life THAT important that people (usually family)can't wait until I get to my home to contact me. In fact other than my son and husband, my family doesn't know my cell phone number.

I wear a watch all the time. I like knowing what time it is besides its way more conveniant than a cell which his not attached to your arm but hiding in a pocket or purse. All you have to do with at watch is turn your arm and read. I work out and prefer not to take my sell phone so its easier to read the time with a watch.

I do not wear a watch. I stopped wearing one years ago and also use my cell to know the time. Even where I don't have reception to make calls, it still tells time. Now if the battery dies, then I will look up at the sky and see where the sun is and tell time that way. LOL

Yes, I always wear a watch!! I agree with Scott that it's a must to be able to easily glance down throughout the day to see the time. A cell phone is much too cumbersome for that purpose.

This is too funny. My fiancé and I have this argument all the time! I believe that a wrist watch is just another thing to have to remember. We have the time on our computers, walls, cars, phones & pretty much anything else with technology. Why waste the energy and money on a wrist watch?!? My fiancé on the other hand is like Scott in that he feels naked without it and he is constantly telling me to get one. This is probably because while I find them useless, I am constantly asking him the time because I'm too lazy to dig though my purse for my phone Smile

Yes. I go crazy without my watch. I am a music education major who didn't use to but working at the local school and teaching swim lessons it is essential for me. There are no pockets in my skirts, no cell phones in water, and even when your cell phone dies you can still tell what time it is.

I stopped wearing a watch just because I don't like wearing something on my wrist. But I think watches are still a good idea. Our family of 7 all ask my 14 year old son what time it is because he wears a watch. We live in China and we don't all have cell phones. Personally I think its sad that technology is so commonplace even among children. My son's response to "What time is it?" is often, "Time for you to get a watch."

I used to wear watches - I love them! But, in my lifetime, I've had 4 watches and the batteries died within having them for a month, OR OR OR the band clasp broke, which caused them to fall off - talk about bad luck!

I'm planning to get me a BIG CUTE watch with a buckle band eventually - maybe I'll have more luck with it.

On the other hand (no pun intended..) I have a couple of friends who just wear watches for the look - their watches are either set wrong or have no battery ... go figure!

I don’t wear a watch and have not for years, I don‘t have a cell phone, I don’t even have an alarm clock, I get up every morning about 4 am drink a cup of coffee while I check my email, then I head for the barn to feed and milk before I go to work. So I don't see the need for it myself But my wife is the complete opposite she has to have watch and an alarm.

Yes, I do wear a watch! In fact, I just got a new battery for my nice watch that looks more like a bracelet than a watch, which is partly why I wear it Smile I have another watch I got at Avon that is silver and matches some old jewelry from my Grandmother. I am of the old school and like to know what time it is. My 18-year-old niece told me she can't even read a clock because she's so used to digital. How sad is that!
