Dr. Paul Meier explains separation anxiety

My youngest daughter adopted at age three suffers from separation anxiety at a sixteen years by not wanting to be at home by herself.  When she was younger she always wanted to go with me.  She has been diginosed with RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder).  She is currently in couseling but the counseler although a christian went to secular college and I feel relies too much on worldly wisdom and not on the power of pray and God's protective laws.

I would like to respond to the earlier commment made by Helena.  But first I want to say that God is so awesome in how He leads us!  I have been dealing with SA with my 2 year old...and I heard the tail end of Dr. Meier's comments on KLOVE.  I made it my aim to visit here to read the rest of it.  Very helpful!  Thank you!

I just wanted to share with Helena that it's so good that you're getting help for your daughter! I'm a grown woman who was adopted from a foreign country at 10 mos.  I was abandoned by my birth parent(s) at 3 mos, of whom I know nothing about.  I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord & Savior 17 years ago and have "seemed" to have all my "ducks in a row" (by God's grace!) But an underlying issue with anger (at everyone, my husband, parents, friends--except my 2 year old, thank God!) and overwhelming thoughts/feelings of rejection brought me to see my need for Christian counsel.  Right now I'm seeing a Christian counselor to work through issues that stem from that abandonment...which I NEVER thought I suffered from. It's been so eye-opening! God is revealing to heal!  It's painful but it's already been so worth it!  Soley by the work of God, I will get to the root of the issue (can't say I'm there yet)...but I credit the progress to the fact that God is working/using the Christian counsel I'm receiving...I couldn't do this on my own.

I just wanted to encourage you to go with your heart!  A Christian counselor that counsels by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word is a powerful tool in the hands of our Healer! Anyone can say they are a Christian, but it's what's in their heart and what eventually comes out of their mouth that will tell you what they truly believe.  I'm sure this counselor is well educated and wants to truly help your daughter, but perhaps God is trying to move you in a different direction.  I will pray for the very best for your daughter!
