Yes! Its time for Christmas music. One day or one month is not enough to celebrate the amazing love of Jesus to earth coming in flesh and eventually paying the debt for my our sins. Amen!

The only Christmas music that should be played before Thanksgiving is by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra!!  Nothing to "traditional" before Thanksgiving!

Kelli - I am with you!  Christmas all of the way.  I love those holiday songs.  It puts me in a wonderful, loving mood.  I find myself humming, my step is lighter, I am nicer to people.  I honestly don't get why so many people are against it.  Here in Pittsburgh,we had snow over the weekend, so it definitely felt like Christmas.  I would love to hear a Christmas carol interspersed with the regulars.  Here in Pittsburgh, we have a couple of radio stations that play Christmas music 24 hours a day the week before Thanksgiving through Christmas Day! I love every minute of it. Thanks for all you do!

My early years were filled with Trials and Tribulations but some of the best times of my early life involved the time  spent with family around Christmas. I believe it is because Christmas reminds me of Christ Birth and this brings me Joy...

Play Christmas Songs early (Before Thanksgiving) for those of us who are in need of the encouragement. "Positive and Encouraging Music..."

Sure why not.  I have a broken iPod I play in my office that won't sync anymore and it has a bunch of Christmas tunes along with the other Christian songs.  I am surprised with a Christmas song a couple times a day when I play it.  It is kind of nice but it does get looks when someone walks in and hears that in the summer time.

it use to fry me christmas in nov. until God layed it on my heart that . not to judge . if one is giving thanks in nov. and the thing they are most thankful for is birth of christ then let them be be blessed in nov. after all thanksgiving is not about the turkey but the blessing and christmas is not about the gifts or the true. but but about christ birthday...after all the blessing to be thankful for is the birth of jesus christ who found us worthy before our birth that our life be with his life...that is a lot to be thankful for for thought

It just occurred to me that since we are already being commercialized by the stores who already have Christmas stuff out it is IMPERATIVE to have a Christmas song as an antidote.  Lets counter the stores with the Jesus side of it.

Absolutely NOT!!  Scott I agree with every single argument you've given not to play Christmas music.  They're all completely valid - especially the one about it fueling commercialism.  Even though it's only 'one' song - all it takes is a spark.  Remember - too much of anything makes it less special.

If we ever needed the joy and reassuring  message of Christmas music is NOW!!!!! Also, living in Texas where it is still in the 80's +, a little Christmas music helps us feel cooler.  Also....for the comments on Christmas items in stores showing up in September or October, this is something that has been done in retail for a long time.  With the economy in the shape it is in now, putting items in lay-away is helpful for those stretching their $ as best they can.  The Spirit of Christmas is wonderful and the more it can be shared, the better.  A couple of songs along the way isn't going to hurt...will only help!!!!

Please try to keep in mind that there are many people that Christmas music does not bring happiness. Many of us have experienced loss, or have little to no family that care, no holiday gatherings, presents or anything that resembles what your life looks like. I'd be happy, too, if I had a life like yours. It would be wrong of you to make this assumption. I do like Christmas music, but I don't care for the sadness that the season brings, nor do I look forward to it. I do the best I can, but it is very different than your reality.

I think this is a good time to start integrating Christmas music into the regular schedule, gradually building up to Christmas.  The REAL message of Christmas is important every day of the year.  Beautiful songs with a beautiful message shouldn't be saved for only a few days each year.  For the same reason, I think Christmas music should also be played for the 12 days after Christmas also.  The Christmas season doesn't end at midnight on Christmas day.

Talking about Christmas. We have 5 children and lots of family to buy for so we start shopping the day after Christmas for the next year and I will pick up things throughout the year getting for for it. We put up our tree & decorations a week or two before Thanksgiving so the pressure of decorating is done so we can enjoy Tgiving and shop Black Friday. After Black Friday there are only 3 Saturdays left before Christmas if you don't count Christmas Eve. And yes, we listen to Christmas music EARLY.  We started before Halloween, but just a little so we don't get tired of it before Christmas. We have made a birthday cake for Jesus and already picked out which one we want to bake for HIM this year! So we say play a Christmas song every once in a while...what will it hurt?

I personally think it is a little too soon. As much as I love Christmas music when you start hearing Christmas music you start to think about the new year and everything that you have been thru this year and what has happened in your life. Life goes by too fast as it is already. We still have 2 months before another year passes us by. I would like to catch my breath before another year "flies" by in the blink of an eye!
P.S. I did enjoy the Christmas song you played, so when it gets closer to Christmas I will be requesting it Smile

Hi guys,
I’m with Scott on this one,  I love Christmas music and It’s a time for celebration, But commercialism has taken the thankfulness out of Thanksgiving and even some of the meaning out of Christmas music to the ameican public.  I hear so many people groaning over Christmas music, Really?  Do we even want this to be a debate?  We want this to be a joyful time for everyone, if the verdict is split in half that’s way too many people that think it’s too early.  Let’s just wait a bit, let people settle into Thanksgiving then wow them with Christmas!

Scott, I understand your concern over the commercialization of Christmas, so I think there needs to be a clarification of what Christmas music we are talking about. There is a difference between Santa music and true "Christ"mas music. Playing Santa music is part of the commercialism, but music about the birth of our Lord and Savior is not. If we are to proclaim the Lord's death until He comes like we do every time we take communion (which is done all throughout the year), shouldn't we also be proclaiming His birth all year round?
11/3/2011 9:07:01 AM

I agree with making a distinction between the secular tunes associated with the commercialization of Christmas (hold off on these as long as possible) and slowly introducing the beautiful message of Christ in Christmas as the older and newer sacred pieces do. The holy music is always a beautiful reminder any day or night. As a recreational musician, I am busy these days preparing for various Christmas performances, and find the early reminders and preparation with fellow observers to be a joy.
