New York, New York

Looking back at 2011, one of the biggest highlights for us was our trip to New York back in September.  We were there to honor all the lives lost ten years ago on 9/11 by serving at The Bowery Mission and The Relief Bus.  It was so much fun to do the show from the ABC News studios in Manhatten...in fact, the entire trip was life changing!

One part of our trip that impacted me the most was serving along side Mandisa and Tenth Avenue North at The Bowery Mission (see the photo below!). We had the opportunity to talk with James Macklin, the Director of Outreach at The Bower Mission, about his story.  I was blown away when  Mandisa sang "Stronger" for the guests and I walked away a different person, gaining more from serving than being served.

"Serving at The Relief Bus with Big Daddy Weave impacted me equally as we served soup to the homeless.  I was changed by serving at both of these ministries."- Scott

"I have to say that serving at The Relief Bus was life changing for me!  I was stunned to see that the face of homelessness has changed.  There were several people in business suites coming to get soup because they could not afford to buy lunch.  In fact, Mike Weaver, from Big Daddy Weave, shared about how it impacted him to be a part of distributing clothing and food that day.  It was a humbling and incredible experience."- Kelli

Listen this Saturday (12/31/2011) and Sunday (1/1/2012) from 2pm to 4pm Central to hear us talk  about all the Top Stories and Songs of 2011.

From Flooding to Water of Life

Reflecting on 2011 this week, so far we have looked at Joplin's devastation and restoration as well as Gabrielle Giffords amazing story of love and strength.  Today we remember the horrible tragedy that took place back in March when an 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Japan.  Villages, towns, cities, ports, boats and houses were destroyed.  Lives were lost and all of Japan was impacted.

Although there was so much destruction something great took place.  Several people and organizations stepped up, came together, just to help.  Among the organizations was World Vision, Compassion International and Convoy of Hope.  These organizations helped create several relief effort needs with fundraising, sending people and supplies.  It was amazing to see so many organizations come together to support one tragic cause.  We asked you to pray for everyone impacted by this tragic event and you stepped up in a big way.

"'Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,' says the Lord who has compassion on you." --Isaiah 54:12

In 2011 we discovered that every day over 4,000 children are dying of water-related diseases due to unclean drinking water.  We took this cause head on with Compassion's Water of Life, a safe water system that protects a child from life-threatening diseases for life.  With your help we were able to send out several thousand Water of Life systems.  It was a great moment for us in 2011 to see your response to such a great need.

We have shared two more of our highlights of 2011.  Share your highlight or your personal moment with us here or on Facebook.

Thank you for making 2011 such a great year, looking forward to what God is doing in 2012.

Gabrielle Giffords Destroyed to Abundant Life

Looking back on 2011 we remember Gabby Giffords' story, one that begins with destruction from a single gun shot in a Safeway parking lot in Tulsa, AZ. To a story of love and strength born from a difficult journey of rehabilitation.   Her husband, Astronaut Mark Kelly, stood by her side consistently pouring out encouragement to lift up his wife and love to carry her through tough trials.  In Mark’s love for Gabby we see scripture come to life, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her," Ephesians 5:25.  God also tells us, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10.  We have learned that with love we gain strength to overcome difficult situations together.

Absolutely an amazing story as we look back on 2011.  What was something that happened in your life in 2011 that has prepared you for this coming new year?  Share with us here or on our Facebook Page.

The song you wrote "Worth Dying For"  is so inspiring for us all to keep going!  We all have so many times in life we wonder if we have any worth when negative comments come our way and we are doing the best we can and it isn't good enough for some.  We can wonder if God can truelly find that we were worth His efforts in sanctifying us to be his people.  But I beleive the answer is yes and when I hear that song it reminds me the answer is yes!  Not because of who we are but because of the work of the cross in us making us worthy through faith in Jesus Christ.  A scripture that God has been putting on my heart lately is "Do not tire of doing good!"
