I Need A Hero

I need a hero!  In the 80’s, Bonnie Tyler made that plea, she sang, “I need a hero, he’s gotta be strong, he’s gotta be fast and he’s gotta be larger than life. Somewhere just beyond my reach…There’s someone reaching back for me.”

We all need a hero, for those who are Christians, our hero is Jesus, and what a hero He is… He gave his life to save ours.  It doesn’t get more heroic than that, and our response to his act of heroism is to live a life worthy of His sacrifice.  It isn’t complicated, “Love God and Love others.”

Being a hero isn’t easy, at times, it requires sacrifice, but those sacrifices always pale in comparison to the reward of changing someone else’s life. In Bangkok, I discovered a new super hero today, her name is Marilyn. She doesn’t fly in an invisible airplane, wear spandex or have any super powers, but she is ever bit the hero.  Marilyn is a World Vision sponsor, and she answered an 8 year old boy’s cry for help!

Nappadon lives in small house built in a Bangkok alley with seven other people. His family lives off what they make as street vendors, between them, they make about $10 a day.  Trying to imagine how your family would manage on $10 a day is sobering!  Without help, this cycle of poverty is endless. Marilyn’s sponsorship of Nappadon, reaches far beyond his own personal care, but provides hope and opportunity for his family and his community.

What Marilyn has done for Nappadon means so much to him that he has a box filled with all of the letters she sends to him, and he even refers to her as “Grandma Marilyn”.  When she sends him something, he shares it with all of the kids in the neighborhood.  Nappadon loves art, and recently received a box of crayons from Marilyn, which he broke and divided among all of the other kids, so they all had something. He is now finally able to attend school, so that he has hope, and a chance to break the cycle of poverty in his family.

Marilyn is proof that you don’t need a super power to be a super hero, you just need to love someone and care enough to make a difference in their life. There are World Vision kids, just like Nappadon, Holding Out For A Hero…

You can be their Hero! Thanks for being 1 of 1,000 K-LOVE listeners to share Love Around the World! Sponsor a child today!
