Start your morning off with Amy & Kankelfritz as they entertain you, and also help you in your walk with God.
Thanks to my three young boys (Elijah, Maxwell and Isaac), you’ll often find me busy peeling spaghetti off the wall or getting buried under piles of laundry! My pastor husband, Eric, and I LOVE our boys beyond belief. In fact, we love lots of kids. Over the past 16 years, we’ve worked in youth ministry, and while I've enjoyed summer camps and late night pizza, I never forgot what I said as a child in Council Bluffs, Iowa, ‘I want to be the next Barbara Walters.’
Okay maybe not the blond hair (I like being a brunette), but the interviewing part. I enjoy getting to know people – sitting down for a chat over cheesecake. With a degree in broadcast journalism, I tried radio, TV and Public Relations, and a decade ago God gave me the privilege of joining the team at K-LOVE. Now, I can chat with my friends and off-air I can sing to my best friend Jesus at the top of lungs!
I am thankful that everyday I can live out God's promises in my life verses, Jeremiah 29:11-13: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.’"
If you are like most people, you're wondering if my name is real, and yes it is! Kankelfritz is a goofy and funny sounding name that was once sort of embarrassing. But over the years, I have grown to love it. One benefit is, I can spot a telemarketer a mile away! "Is Mr. kan-Ke, Kanker, uhhhh Kinkle-zits there?" I can honestly say, "He's not here," because, that's not my name!
I grew up in Seattle, Washington, where you don't tan, you rust. I got my start in radio at a high school station, and then moved to tiny little Siloam Springs, Arkansas to attend John Brown University, a small Christian school. After college, I moved all over the U.S. working in about every type of radio station; country, rock, light rock, when finally I relented to God's plan for me in Christian radio.
I am married to my super hero, Becky! She has given up her entire life to our family and its unique demands. About 10 years ago we had Abby Grace. Obviously, a new baby changes every marriage. But this change was a little more challenging because Becky would have a very difficult pregnancy, followed by Abby spending over a month in the NICU. Upon discharge, they diagnosed Abby as profoundly deaf, and soon after with cerebral palsy, and a visual impairment. She was also diagnosed with a heart defect, of which the Lord has healed her! We believe that God is still in the healing business and that she will be healed of the rest as well. Oh, and I can't forget our 4-year-old son Sam. He has a miracle story as well and at this age, he really is the head of the household.
