Never particularly interested in leading the typical artist’s life, the unassuming worship leader from England, Matt Redman, is best known for penning many of the praise choruses churches sing every Sunday morning including “The Heart of Worship,” “Better is One Day,” “Blessed Be Your Name,” and “You Never Let Go.”
Aside from performing the songs himself over the course of 10 albums in 17 years, many of his songwriting peers have covered his songs including Rebecca St. James, David Crowder Band, Michael W. Smith and Tree 63.
Now residing in Atlanta with his wife Beth and their five children, Matt and his family are an integral part of the recent Passion Church plant with fellow worship artists Chris Tomlin, Christy and Nathan Nockels and Passion founder Louis Giglio.
Matt began leading worship at age 20 in England at St. Andrews Church, in Chorleywood before moving to help start up Soul Survivor Church in Watford, England. After a sabbatical in America when he recorded Where Angels Fear to Tread in 2002, Matt returned to the United Kingdom to work with Terry Virgo at the Newfrontiers Church where he was involved with their popular “Newday” and “Together on a Mission” conferences. Always willing to help new churches reach a new area with the gospel message, Matt joined a new church planet in West Sussex, England, led by Will Kemp in 2004.
In addition to a lifetime of leading worship, Matt is also the author is three books which center around the theme of worship and how that translates into the lives we lead as believers.
