Chris and Conrad

Proving that two is definitely better than one, Chris Kuti and Conrad Johnson, better known to Christian music fans as simply Chris and Conrad, were introduced to each other in 2007 as solo artists and potential co-writers.

After penning a couple of songs together, they soon figured out they had compatible artistic sensibilities and decided to form a duo rather than pursue their respective solo careers. As it turns out, their musical instincts were right on target with the 2009 #1 Christian radio hit “Lead Me to the Cross,” written by fellow singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser.

Other successful singles would follow including “You’re the One” and “Who I Really Am” which features guest vocals from Big Daddy Weave lead singer Mike Weaver.

When it comes to writing songs, inspiration often arrives at the most random moments. “Writing for us consists of a multitude of, what we like to term, hook ideas, which come to our minds as we’re driving around town,” says Chris. “We typically have to record them onto our iPhones before we forget them. These ideas might not even have a subject topic, but they give us something to bring into a writing session, a conversation starter, so to speak. Often times these collections of hooks and ideas turn into a single song, which is never a bad thing in our opinion.”

In addition to working on their own music, Chris and Conrad also stay busy with recording and producing other artists in their Lakeland, Florida studio. Chris also leads the popular “Late Night” outreach to University of South Florida.
