Silja Binjagte tells the United Methodist Church, she knew people in her community didn’t get as much fresh food as they need, so she came up with the thought of building gardens.

Silja’s idea grew into a project her church adopted, building raised beds to grow vegetables. She was able to obtain all that was needed through donations. Silja will be offering the harvest to a local food pantry, for the 800 people a month the pantry serves.

Melanie Homan, of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, says young people like Silja are already leaders, and it’s important to foster their desire to lead, as they help to make the world a better place. She adds encouraging young people like Silja will hopefully reinforce a lifelong desire to be of service to others.
