Free Bible App Could Hit 300,000,000 For Christmas (+podcast)

Friday, December 22, 2017

EDMOND Okla. (K-LOVE News – Alex Gregory) – As 2017 comes to a close, the world and to a degree the United States, faces a great deal of uncertainty. This seems to resonate with people downloading the free Bible app YouVersion which lists the most popular verse of the year as Joshua 1:9. “This is my command – be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

YouVersion could hit a significant milestone shortly; with 300 million downloads of the free Bible app by Christmas Day. Launched in 2007 as a website affiliated with Life Church in Oklahoma, the site was an attempt to harness the rapidly growing power of the internet as a force for good and meaningful change. Then in 2008, Steve Jobs’ Apple Corporation opened their App Store, which made applications like Pandora available for smart devices. YouVersion was in that initial wave of apps.

Since then, the app has added Bible translations into over 900 languages and 1,200 versions. It’s still available free of charge, to anyone in the world.

For those who’ve never had any introduction to Christianity in general, or those who’ve long enjoyed a personal relationship with God, reading the Bible cover to cover can occasionally be a daunting task. Particularly, if there’s something you’re struggling with right now. To help, YouVersion has created reading plans customized for what might work for you. For those who have difficulty making time to sit down and read, or who may not be able to read, there are audio versions available as well. There are even colorfully illustrated versions to help children, and those who like pictures, grow in their own faith.

So far, three billion chapters have been heard, and hundreds of millions of verses have been shared by unique users around the world. And in case you were wondering, the most popular verse in the United States right now is Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”
