Clawson Assembly of God

(K-LOVE News – by Monika Kelly)—When a Texas church decided to give away brand new bicycles to the first 500 families that signed up, they never expected more than 700 children would come pouring through their doors. But that's exactly what happened at the Clawson Assembly of God Church in Pollok, Texas.

(If you would you like to HEAR the story, listen below.)

Clawson Assembly of God pastor Josh Poage and his congregation made sure to take care of every child.

Even though they didn't have 700 bikes assembled and ready to go for all of the additional children, Connect Director Michelle McAdams issued orange wristbands so the children could come back at a later date to collect their bike.

Michelle McAdams says the idea to give away bikes was originally her parents' idea. The founders of the church had been raised in poor circumstances and often wouldn't receive anything for the holidays. She says of the kids' reactions, "Their faces! It's just the best thing that we do."

The Clawson Assembly of God is definitely an outreach church. In addition to the bicycle giveaway, they're also invovled in the Angel Tree Program (which provides Christmas gifts to the children of inmates), Backpack Buddies (food is sent home with children during extended school holidays) and following the bike giveaway, Pastor Josh himslef led an outreach team to Mexico, where they passed out jackets, blankets, hygiene items and toys.

McAdams says they wouldn't have been able to do the bike giveway without generous donations from local businesses and their congregation.
