Endure

I don’t know if you do this too, but with my busy life I tend forget that this is not all there is.  There is so much more to life, and it's so much better than this.

The other day my 6 year-old daughter, Emily, asked me if there were bedtimes in heaven.  I think for her that would be the best thing ever, for me, sleep sounds like heaven.

I think I found the answer to that last night at church.  I went to a special service with author and pastor Francis Chan, and helped me wrap my brain around what our experience in heaven might be like.  He talked about this verse:

"If we endure hardship, we will also reign with Him." 2 Timothy 2:12

I don't know about you, but I'm not sure what "reigning" with God in heaven will be like, but I'm pretty sure we won't have time to sleep.

Heaven has to be more than we see in the movies. It's going to be more than just eating at a buffet where calories don't count.

"Reigning with God"  sounds like we get to be live like Kings and Queens.  I'm thinking it's going to be awesome.  I don't know about you, but I want in...

I want more than this life, because I'm exhausted from enduring.

If you are too, there's a simple thing you can do.  Pray to God, ask for forgiveness from your sins, and we will be reigning with God in heaven.

If you'd like to talk to someone about that kind of prayer please call a pastor at 800-525-LOVE.

Don't Blink

For they (man) are like a breath of air; their days are like a passing shadow." Psalm 144:4

I don’t know about you, but I needed that reminder today to slow down, count every moment, and make every moment count.

That’s the thing about kids, there are days you can’t wait for them to grow up and be out on their own, and then there are days like this, when you just want to freeze a moment in time.

I had one of those moments this mornings.  I have 3 kids; 6, 4, and, 2. I call them my sunshines, because it always seems like on one of those rough days, they do something that reminds me what life is all about. They help find joy in every moment, because that's all they know, now.

I was rushing to get out the door to head to work, and they were literally in my way. They were in my living room with laundry baskets over their heads, peeking out of the bottom and then covering up again.

At first I was frustrated and asked, "what are you doing?"
They responded with complete joy, "Well mama we’re pretending to be turtles!"

Of course they were!  That's a perfectly normal thing to do at 7am when you are supposed to be getting ready for school!

I just wanted to freeze them in time, enjoy every moment, and also wonder why I spent so much money on Christmas presents...

Reminds me of this song from Revive, called "Blink" about making every moment in life count, because "the only thing that matters is how we have loved"...not whether or not we were 5 minutes late for work.

Teach me to number my days
And count every moment
Before it slips away
Take in all the colors
Before they fade to grey
I don't want to miss
Even just a second
More of this

It happens in a blink, it happens in a flash
It happens in the time it took to look back
I try to hold on tight, but there's no stopping time
What is it I've done with my life?

It happens in a blink
It happens in a blink

When it's all said and done
No one remembers

How far we have run
The only thing that matters
Is how we have loved
