10,000 Reasons

Your life is full of God’s goodness.  Matt Redman’s new song, 10,000 Reasons is all about finding those reasons and thanking God for them.

I know that some days it’s hard to get that.  When you feel beat down, abandoned, alone, like a failure, change your perspective by thinking back to all the things God has gotten you through in the past and will get you through again.

In this video about the story behind the song Matt Redman described his inspiration was from David in Psalm 103,  “He’s just pouring out all these reasons, he’s healed you from diseases, he’s redeemed you from the pit…and you can’t shut him up about it!  Isn’t that what the life of worship is meant to be…we are meant to be so conscious of the reasons to praise God.”

I know how failure can make it hard to find things to praise God for, but it can also make the things you have been successful at more clear.

Personally, I still struggle with the failure of my marriage, and sometimes it clouds my vision of the good things that God has brought into my life.

But, when I look in my rear view mirror and I see 3 of God’s children that he has entrusted to my care, I can sing again.

Live Freely and Lightly

You wonder what their secret is, people who seem to handle adversity, with such a good attitude.

There’s Stephanie Decker, the mom in Indiana who lost her legs while laying on her children to save their lives from the tornadoes there last month.  She left the hospital in a wheel chair this weekend smiling…saying she feels awesome.

I don’t know about you, but I just want to bottle it up.

Saw this story of a man that had a pretty rough up bringing.  He was very poor, growing up in India…he’s not even 5 feet tall…he’s 4’11…spent some time in prison…but got into body building and won the Mr. Universe title in 1952.  Yesterday he turned 100.

The secret to his long life?   His ability to take his troubles lightly and remain happy during difficult times

That’s living life with God.  This thing called Faith.  If you’re worried about something, afraid of your future, talk to God about it.

Today’s Encouraging Word: Matthew 11:30.  I love the Message paraphrase of this verse,

to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
