New YOU in 52 Week 1 Tips!

If it's you're goal to take better care of the body that God gave you.  New YOU in 52 is a chance to learn something new every week that will help you stick to your resolutions and reach your goals.  Nutritionist Christine Avanti shared some great tips with us this Friday.  Here is what she says about a great place to start!

1) Clean out your pantry and fridge of any foods that have more then 10 grams of fat per serving. Also remove any foods that are high in preservatives i.e., package foods such as Ramen noodles, sugar loaded cereals, soda, juice, frozen pizza, ice creams etc.

2) Grocery shopping tips: a) Healthful carbohydrates: buy fresh or frozen fruits and veggies that are in season such as apples, oranges, grapes, squash, artichokes, sweet potatoes, bok choy and broccoli. b) Healthful protein sources that won't break the bank: whole chicken, frozen shrimp and low fat cottage cheese.

Just what I needed to keep me on target - having passed the 40-year mark, I know it's especially important now to monitor activity level & food intake as metabolism slows down even as I look for ways to keep it up!  My health is generally good although at this point I'd like to get my weight down about 3-5 pounds to be within my preferred range.  I typically use the wisdom I learned from a college physical education instructor - how well do my clothes fit rather than what the scale says (I don't even have a scale at home.)

Thank you so much for your encouragment! I have struggled to lose weight for YEARS. (needing to lose around 80 pounds!)I have failed so many times. Sitting in church the Sunday night following New Years, I realized that all those times I had never TRULY turned it over to God. I would say a prayer every now and then about it, but never committed it to Him daily. Now I am truly praying without ceasing! What a blessing to to be in an ongoing conversation with the Father throughout the day!! 2010 is going to be the year I stop doing this on my own. First and foremost, I am committing to getting to know my Savior better by spending time in the word. How awesome that HE calls us friends and wants a personal relationship with us!! Praying for all of you on this journey as well. THank you Scott and Kelly and the rest of the crew!!! Looking forward to the journey!!

I travel all over the country and the first thing I do when I rent a car is find KLOVE on the radio....However I live in Dallas Fort Worth area, and can never get a KLOVE station until I go south to Waco.

I listen online when I work at home.

Ya'll keep up the great work. Love your music and message.

I heard you talking about "New YOU in 52" and wanted to share a success story everyone should read.  I belong to HealthStewards.com and that is where I get some of my accountability to stay on the healthy lifestyle track (which is not a diet but a lifestyle change.)  I am Peggy-149 on the site and I lost all the weight I wanted to in one year but have gained back a bit and so it continues.  Accountability to me is the biggest part of success.  Trying to lose weight in secret means you can give up in secret, too.

This is where I met 19 year old Kassey.  She was sixteen when I first met her.  This past year she lost 165 lbs!!  No gimmicks or fads, just hard work and determination! One good choice after another. Her story is amazing and you can find her at the site.  She is Kassey-237.  She also has a blog and both sites have before during and after pictures.  She seriously started her journey Dec 11, 2008 and by Dec 11, 2009 I think she was down 161 lbs.  Kassey decided not to do the "usual New Year's Resolution" to lose weight but to start right when she was ready to start.

She has mentioned that she listens to K-Love and it would be cool if you could help her get her story out there.  I think from reading her blog and following along with her on Heath Stewards, that she has a heart to help other girls (and really anyone else) realize the potential they have and that it can be done.  She has stuck with her plan through some very trying times in the past year and relied so much on God to help her through.  Her whole life has changed and she has proved to all of us that it can be done in 52.  A NEW YOU can emerge if you persevere and push forward.  Her blog is at kassandralexis.blogspot.com  I don't think she'll mind that I'm sharing her story here because she has it publicly posted online and wants people to be encouraged by her success.  I'll let her know that I've put this here so she knows.  Check it out when you get a chance.  I share this because I'm just so proud of her!

Quick Testiminy - I was 60 lbs overweight. Asked God to hep me glorify him with my Health." God - you said by your stripes I am healed. "This Asthma condition is yours not mine" . God put me in touch with people on the Atkins Diet. At age 40 I lost weight, started running and no longer required medications for asthma after 40 years and now know what foods that affect my health. Lession: I gave God the problem and he gave me the responsibility of what to eat and how to stay healthy!

Are you still doing the give away?  Me and my wife are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary... what a great gift that would be, the gift of getting fit together.  A great opportunity to continue to grow in in our relationship, or maybe shrink?
